Sale to 15-Day IL With Fractured Ribcage

Interestingly, he pitched to two more guys after the rib injury. Struck out Alonso on four pitches, all fastballs, 94mph, 92, 93, 96, and then 4 pitches to Nimmo, fastball 95, sinker 96, slider 81, slider 82. I know he probably had adrenaline pumping, but that makes me think it's not that bad
Where's the deer antler spray?

Probably made it worse.

Imagine if he wasn’t out there when he didn’t need to be out there. Imagine if the Braves had a competent manager.

The only silver lining is it wasn’t an arm injury while throwing 120 pitches.

And how fragile is sale? Breaking 2 ribs on that seems insane
The whole point is he shouldn’t be throwing unnecessary pitches and innings. This time it was a rib injury during an inning he shouldn’t have been pitching, but it just as easily could have been his back or arm.

Pure stupidity to extend him.

I guess this settles the debate of whether he should be available at the deadline…

This team is infuriating with its stupidity. As has been pointed out multiple times in this thread, there was no upside and all downside to sending Sale out for that 9th. Even if he gets the CG and doesn’t injure himself, he‘s throwing pitches while fatigued and the game not really in doubt anymore. And then you wonder why he’s not available to pitch in the playoffs.

The play was so unnecessary all around, from Snitker extending Sale with a rested bullpen to Sale diving like he did in a 5-0 game in the 9th. I'm probably more irritated at Sale, if I'm honest. Dumb risking his health on that play, heat of the moment be damned.

I guess the silver lining is that if the Braves can somehow miraculously make the postseason (big if, I know), then he'll have saved all those bullets for October baseball.

If the last few years have taught me anything, it’s that the baseball gods are a real thing. Yes Sale could have just as easily gotten hurt in the first inning. But he and we tempted fate. And now we pay the price. Again.

With sale we should think he can get hurt at any time, so unless it's important, pull em
