Saturday 4/29 Game Postponed

Bowman and DOB speculating that Soroka could be making his long awaited debut back in the majors Friday... they will need a Gwinnett starter and he will be on regular rest after starting today. Looks like him or Shuster.

I truly hate rainouts, but honestly, our bullpen is going to be fully rested, starters get a break and Strider especially gets two extra days of rest after his massive start earlier this week. It’s not all bad at all.

I would love this …. But doesn’t seem to be consistent with how they’ve handled him so far

They may not have a choice if its him or Shuster... I don't think they want Shuster back up at this point. They could go with a pen game, I guess.

Soroka...
3.0 ip 10 h 7 er 0 bb 1 k

For him to be totally punished white not walking people is concerning

I still questioned skipping a start. He need repetition. You can control innings within a given start Making him wait a week and a half between starts probably did him no favors when he already missed 2 years of in game pitching.

I also think the sinker heavy profile isn’t going to work the same as it did 4-5 years ago. Gotta miss bats and those sinkers are easier to punish than elevated fastballs. So his other pitches are going to have to be plus for him to have a lot of success.

Is there any data to support this?

Is it? Would you rather him have a bad game while walking a bunch of batters?

Yes, I would. I don't think command will be an issue for soroka, so I'd write that off as flukish. To just get hit worries me more. Hopefully it was just rust from long lay off between starts

Does your ass hurt after pulling that bull**** out of it?

I really don't get this take. Soroka was never been a huge K guy anyway. What he mastered was tunneling and getting weak contact. He was able to use all his pitches to play off all his other pitches. His problem now is he isn't commanding pitches in the zone. He is making a lot of non competitive pitches high and high and out side. Balls are getting away from him. He also was victim to bad defense and Babip hits yesterday. He needs to pitch every time his turn comes up. He can be on a pitch count. that is fine. But he needs to build his routine and have it not change until he has a feel for all his pitches facing live hitters.

Isn’t it reasonable to expect a pitcher to be a bit rusty after not pitching for like 3 years?

Let the guy go through half a season in AAA and see how he recovers, mmkay?

Sure, but it's being talked about him starting for Atlanta on Friday
