Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Rumors are that after Gaetz doesn't get nominated he gets appointed by DeSantis to take over Rubio's senate seat.

That explains why he had confidence in resigning his House seat.

Or just do what he did last time when about midway through his Presidency he just used recess appointments and never actually have them confirmed.

You’re apparently advocating for one of two things:

1) Going so scorched-earth against all cartel members that we just ignore due process.

2) Expensive military campaigns to go kill cartel leaders in other countries.

If it’s not one of those two things, you’re just describing our current drug enforcement measures and calling it something new.

If there’s one thing we learned from the war on terror, it’s that killing people leads to a change in behavior forever and we will never, ever need to worry about it ever again, right?

Your solution is what? Do nothing about a drug epidemic going on in this country, of which like 90% comes in illegally from Mexico?

Partnering with Mexico (and other latin American countries) to root out cartels is absolutely something that should be on the agenda. And yes, that includes going scorched Earth on the cartels. Due process doesn't work when there is massive corruption.

I would be stunned if RDS did that big of a favor to the crew who tried to destroy him

That’s why I asked about the next time that Senate seat would then be elected. If I’m RDS and want to pivot to the Senate, having an incumbent that you wont have to waste much energy beating in a primary is a nice little step, as is throwing some red meat to the MAGA base by “helping” one of their favorite little sexual predators. Basically no other reason would make sense for him to do this for such an unpopular guy.

Also reading that the House Ethics report was set to come out (or voted on to release?) this Friday and now it’s out of their jurisdiction? I’m now 90% sure the President-elect of the United States seriously just nominated a sham candidate to be our Attorney General so he could more gracefully avoid a report on his activities with underage girls as a reward for his loyalty.

When it comes to drugs, every plan should focus primarily on the actual reasons people take drugs in the first place. You can’t fix the drug epidemic on the supply side, you need to fix it on the demand side. Continue working on stopping and punishing people who push drugs into the country and use that exciting new border security I’ve been told is coming to slow the process down, and work on bettering people’s lives so they don’t have as many triggers to turn to drugs as well as reform our system to turn drug use offenses into more of a mental health response than a criminal response.

And we’re free to agree to disagree on due process. I, for one, don’t want to give any government any more authority to kill people than it already has.

That is the worst plan imaginable.

As for your last point, again it comes down the fact that you are naive. The world is ugly. And sometimes, ugly things can only be remedied by inconvenient actions. It sucks, but it's reality. And it's been the reality throughout the history of the world. It's entirely the reason why the Nazi party no longer exists.

It would be better for the nation that Matt Gaetz went away from politics forever, whatever route it takes to get there.

While it maybe unfair to judge a book by it's cover, he literally looks like every movie/tv show frat guy that gets too frisky with the female coeds.

Then why has it worked in other countries?

By decriminalizing drug use, not sales, you can greatly reduce harm to those struggling with addiction. I’m not even looking to this in terms of whether it’s fair to drug addicts or whatnot. Even if they’re overtaken by addiction now, they still make the choices they make and it’s fair to hold them accountable for those actions. But if we can actually meaningfully reduce opioid deaths and use by not focusing as much on deterrence through criminal punishment of drug use, why not try it?

Yeah, when every news outlet can play a super cut of various Republican members of Congress sharing firsthand accounts of Gaetz being a frat boy pervert on the House floor it’s not great.

I also don’t love the idea of calling treating cartels like terrorists an inconvenient action. Where would be the line? Anybody in the cartel? Just drone strikes on the leaders? Torturing low-level mules at Gitmo to find hideouts? Two of the most costly and disastrous failures of my lifetime, the war on drugs and the war on terror simply don’t need to be combined into one even more costly failure.

Portugal isn't neighboring one of the worlds highest producers of illegal drugs. And they have a population of only 10 million people. Not exactly a huge for the illegal narcotic producers of the world.

The war on drugs was awful because of how we enforced it in America. That's it.

And the war on terror was bad because it lead to the Iraq War. I agree we never should have invaded Iraq. But Afghanistan was necessary. And leaving the way we did under Biden undid 2 decades of stabilization. And not surprisingly, lead to an event like October 7th.

I don’t share in your belief that this kind of program wouldn’t be scalable. People don’t just wander onto the streets one day in search of Fentanyl. And regardless of the difference in supply, deaths would go down if people were less afraid to get help in the event of an overdose. The deterrence through punishment strategy hasn’t worked for anything but deterring people from having their lives saved in emergencies because then they’d get arrested.

People weak in the knees for Gaetz appointment. Hysterical to watch. The American people voted for retribution against a corrupt government.

All of this will done with full transparency as opposed to the Biden regime.

It’s safe to say we just fundamentally disagree on this. I agree that mistakes were made that exacerbated the issues, but they were always going to be policy failures because you just can’t root out scarcity. Terrorism and drug addiction have a lot of commonalities. They’re very often escapes from the harsh realities of the world. Angry at a world you see as unjust? Well you can serve your god, defend your community and go to paradise by fighting the “injustice”. Or you can take this little pill that makes that pain go away for a couple hours. Like you said, the world is a difficult place. Don’t be so naive as to think if you wage war against the cartels that it’ll even come close to solving the drug epidemic. You’ll just create a vacancy in the market.

Two things:

1) I’m not all that worried about or triggered by Gaetz. He’s likely DOA in the Senate and there is no shortage of Trump sycophants with far less baggage than Gaetz who will have no problem getting confirmed anyway who will do the exact same things in office he would. I just find it odd Trump seems to be giving Gaetz a political Golden Parachute to leave Congress.

2) You (and Trump) talk a lot about transparency, but there wasn’t a discernible difference between the Trump Administration and any other Admin in US history. Some things were made public, others were not. This is one of those areas where I truly would liken MAGA to a cult. Sometimes you guys just say **** with absolutely no justification for why you’re saying it other than Trump having said it.

Transparency went by the wayside once Trump was elected. Transparency on Russia Hoax. Transparency on Biden laptop.

It was taken too all new levels by the corrupt globalist left.

Gaetz will be AG the hard way or the easy way.

American people saw the weaponization of the governemnt by the left and they want retribution to make sure it doesn't happen again.

MQT is super serious about transparency. Just forgot to ask about it while Biden was in power.
