Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

But isn't this just the inverse of what a dem controlled congress could do?

How would you define that as 'lasting' change?
Because it would be gone. Removed from the budget. The office closed down. It wouldnt exist anymore

A future dem president would need a future dem congress to get funding to build it back from zero.

Possible? Yes. But much harder to do than status quo.

When you think 18 year old kids who want a communist takeover of the country and kill dissidents should vote you need to reconsider your whole worldview.
When you think selectively taking away voting rights is the right solution, you just admitted you like totalitarianism.

Another lasting changes could be passing a balanced budget resolution.

Or automatic spending cuts triggers on deb ceiling increases

Or countless other things. He could protect his legacy for a generation. But so far, hes just doing status quo and EOs

Seems like its the same lift in either direction personally but I don't think you can rip something down immediately that has been built over a century. You need a better strategy than that. Is Trump doing that to the level you would want? Of course not but there have been steps to reduce government and I believe that will continue throughout the Trump/Vance/Hegseth reign.

I wish you were right but nothing has structurally been removed so any future admin can simply continue the status quo

Im not saying its easy. But hes not even trying

Then perhaps don't suggest arresting innocent people that disagree with you. Because that sounds a lot like the communist countries I am familiar with.

The people I've wanted to arrest were active participants in anti-american protests and foreigners that espouse these views.

These people should not be allowed to enjoy the fruits of freedom they are against.

Why the fuck would I care about Christopher Columbus?

The reality is he didn't discover shit, andthe only reason we know who he was instead of aside from a footnote is because Woodrow Wilson appeasing Italian Americans.

Honestly, All Columbus did was not find what he was looking for then say "it's OK I'll enslave and pillage this place instead of trying to find a passage to China"

The real work in making America what it is had nothing to do with Columbus. Hell it doesn't even have anything to do with what most founders did. Most of what made America what it is didn't really happen until the Westward Expansion and all that came with that.

There's no "culture" of America that comes from Columbus. Why should I care if Zohran is scolding him online for fake brownie points?

It always seems easy when you look back.

Why the fuck should the caveman that discovered the wheel be celebrated. Its a wheel! Its obvious!

No one celebrates the caveman who built a wheel by having a national holiday and erecting statues.
Because we don’t know the person they did. But at the time it was considered incredibly daring and bold what Columbus did and set off a wave of exploration and settlement.

The irony of people protecting statues is that the person or people represented in the statue probably wouldn't have wanted a statue built in their honor in the first place.

I don't have a problem with Columbus. He was an important historical figure, especially for American history. But I also don't care if we stop celebrating Columbus day or take down his statue.

I would too. I am generous. I am just not stupid. If you choose alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, lotteries/gambling over spending money on what you need then at some point we need to let nature take its course. This safety net is driving us right into idiocracy.
I’d veer a different direction and just have it be a bit of a nuisance. Need to not starve? Sure, but it’s not a card you can take to your local Walmart. Need shelter? Sure, but we’re not going to subsidize you living in your current home. This would apply to Social Security as well. We do too much to make welfare programs “dignified” that allows for misuse, corruption and inefficiency. Scrap all the payouts and have basic needs accommodated.
