Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Why have they ever owned up to it then?

Why are you putting the US and Iran on the same footing. Shall I give you examples of the US admitting it hit a bad target killing civilians?
This is my problem in a nutshell. Up until approximately a few months ago, your political movement was one of the strongest voices in anti-interventionism and calling out big government, and that sentiment has contributed to the holding the government accountable. If you show a willingness to self-propagandize en masse because you trust the Trump Administration to be a radical change agent, you fundamentally change that incentive structure. So yes, we should demand the government provide some sort of *actual* evidence a school that was hit by a missile during an active missile strike we were conducting was actually caused by an inept or corrupt Iranian government instead of just preemptively declaring it on the government’s behalf.

Our movement was anti China at most lengths.

This severely weakens China.

But surely you must see that you can’t reduce it to something as simple as China Bad, USA Good. You’re fond of reminding the left that institutions will lie to you and what can happen in a place like China, yet you seem very open to trusting the ends will justify the means because the “right” people are in charge.

We are strangling chinas access to fuel that can generate high concentrations of power. It’s a very straight forward calculus.

Me personally I want to see Islam take a massive blow globally.

And yes - I think trump and his circle are generally “good” people and should not be compared to Ccp leadership.

But none of that is particularly relevant to the conversation we’re having right now. Even if you believe the most important geopolitical matter facing us right now is weakening China, it does not necessarily follow that the US will only act morally and responsibly and thus any act that might be immoral or horrible like a bombed school must have been committed by some designated bad actor. And ultimately that’s what your argument on the school seems to rest on: Iran is a bad actor that we cannot rely on to tell the truth, so therefore the only realistic scenario is Iran bombed their own children either through ineptitude or malice, and anybody who disputes or even questions that obvious reality is a moron.

This has become an increasingly toxic trait of modern politics on both sides, and I know I’m guilty of it myself. But to me, it’s hard to watch you answer the question “is it wise to openly declare you have no reason to distrust the government because it’s always worked out so well before” with “we’ve always only cared about China actually” and take your criticisms seriously.

I think it’s perfectly reasonable and logical to have a position that Iran will lie and the US will tell the truth (mostly)
