Deepseek is yet another reminder of the stupidity of the free trade folk. China has stolen our tech for decades and we just sat there and let them do it because we have to have “free trade”.

1. More gross sales / more dollar sales generated
2. More economic performance as measured in GDP
3. Cheaper flowers for consumers (a whole couple of dollars per unit)
4. Less percentage of sale to stay in US
5. Median wealth to drop
6. Less jobs associated with industry for Americans

If you want to pump the first three things you better own the latter three.

Deep Seek is causing a stir because it developed an Open AI competitor despite heavy trade embargoes from the US. Open AI does what it does because of enormous compute. Somehow Deep Seek is on par without access to to top end GPU.

Nvidia stock is down 12%.

Hand waving #3 is interesting. I’m sure consumers will be fine with paying more “a whole couple of dollars per unit” across everything. I think there’s a term for this that everyone was pretty upset about the last 4 years.

Inflation and higher costs sucks.

It sucks even more when the jobs are scarce and the ones available suck. That’s what we have seen the last four years so let’s not ignore that aspect either.
