Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

I can currently point you to at least a dozen videos of pregnant women engulfing Tylenol as a middle finger to Trump.

Whether or not there is any real risk here, it is true that there are legitimate, ACADEMICALLY studied research showing a link, including by Harvard.

But, instead, liberal women will risk harming their child, on video, as a virtue signal against the orange man. Because TLHLIM

Those women are dipshits. But it’s not good governance to respond by doing lazy edgelord comedy online.

For someone who was so concerned with the response to COVID, I’d think you might understand the harm that can be done by a combative HHS department. They’re just doing the “trust us, we know better” bit but instead of decades of medical consensus they’ve just started picking a bunch of less-supported medicine and science and are aggressively messaging about how right they are about it.

This Administration and its supporters have this nasty habit of appealing to authority just as much as they (correctly) accuse the establishment of doing, but their authority is instead often random bullshit.

The medical experts in this country have lost all credibility.

We are all worse for it.

When they said racism was a bigger health threat than covid. When they said masks work and 6 feet was smart... its over for them

We are all on our own now.

But what you’re describing is a combination of two things:

1) Social policy and activism masquerading as public health policy.

2) The chaotic response to a unique and perplexing virus.

But I’m not actually here to argue the merits of the experts. I think based on the whole we live much, much longer and don’t die of or become permanently crippled by every disease and injury imaginable thing suggests they’ve gotten it at least *vaguely* right in a lot of respects, but I have plenty of criticisms of my own and I’m not trying to appeal to their authority here. What I’m suggesting is that replacing that authority with new experts that mostly just have less experience and evidence to support their new conclusions, and then they’re using the megaphone of the White House to do exactly what the government has always done and propagandize us.

Yes - our institutions used to mean something. Acedmia used to mean something.

They don't anymore. the "chaotic response" to a perplexing virus doesn't explain "racism is a bigger public health threat"

You can point a straight line to the Obama admin. Our government and experts can no longer be trusted on literally anything. From public health to "white supremacy is the biggest public threat"

it's over. Y'all blew it. It's your fault

We're on our own now

Hey "51 former intelligence experts said the hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinfo!"

Cool. We no longer can trust those intelligence experts, then

Same as the rest of em

When a professor wrote a study in 2020 explaining that cops dont kill unarmed black people at a higher rate than any other race... he was fired!

Cool, guess what? We dont trust academia anymore

We're on our own now

When scientists told us the world will be over in 2030 unless we pass the green new deal?

Well guess what, nobody listens to scientists anymore

Its not our fault. Its the scientists fault

You want to be a retard to in order to shill for a political position? Cool. Nobody with a brain trusts you anymore

(Leftists still trust them)

What is the argument against this? It’s painfully transparent that the expert class became infected with politics and only those that swore allegiance to the global left were able to maintain “prominence”.

This is also the pro California and New York arguments. Because a foundation was established prior to insane leftist politics the success of each are then assigned to leftism.

It makes zero sense.

The argument against this is that people like Peter Navarro and RFK Jr. are presenting little or poor evidence to support their new conclusions while insisting that they know better and Trump is just right about everything. The government is still appealing to their authority, but that authority is basically just smoke and mirrors and the cult of Donald Trump’s big brain.

But there are studies for almost anything that tell different stories. Acting like this is some new concept because Trump is odd but predictable.

Because some studies don’t get “prominence” as I’ve said above they become “diminished” for some reason in evaluation. Convenient

Sure, that’s a problem. But those studies aren’t inherently better just because they’re less prominent. What the government and the cult is doing is elevating these studies above all the other studies that say different or conflicting things and saying *this* is the study to use to inform your decisions and anybody who disagrees is in the pocket of Big Pharma or a victim of the woke mind virus or has TDS. That’s my issue. I don’t give a damn if you listen to the consensus or not. I’m just saying that a study or idea not conforming to the consensus is not magically better, and it’s pathetic that the government is pushing that narrative.

What you say is “elevate” I would describe as “make people aware of its existence”. Thats why we see this differently.

That’s decidedly not the tone being taken by Trump and his Administration and you damn well know it. They didn’t just “make people aware” of this study and allow people to come to their own conclusions. They scheduled a press conference where the President treated it as absolute fact and have been on an aggressive messaging campaign promoting their new autism treatment while demonizing vaccines and Tylenol. They are posting memes responding to social media posts from 2017 as a sign of how right they are despite it having nothing to do with the topic at hand. They do this for everything. Tariffs aren’t successful? Look at this incredible revenue!

This is a political movement that basically flows from the overarching idea that Donald Trump alone is a genius that knows the real truth and is on some divine mission to save us from the fake truth.

Got it - but the decades of funded whitewashing of the full scientific analysis was fine and we should therefore just expect a natural correcting by those who did all the “wrong”. It’s just not grounded in reality at all.

My issue isn’t the skepticism of the experts. Healthy skepticism is good, particularly when there’s so much money involved. But encouraging others to believe in a new consensus grounded in even less reality isn’t a solution and that’s been the approach here. A network of social media influencers is being paid to provide a new consensus for claims that aren’t backed by more through science or medicine.
