Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Similarly, I hope MAGA applies its renewed admiration for meritocracy by treating people as individuals in all contexts, rather than as representations of statistical abstractions when convenient.
I would be in favor of individually vetting every single individual who is coming to be here, having an evaluation of them, and making a determination that that individual will be a net producer (let em in) or a net taker (good bye)

Absent of that system, I want to use informed data to make immigration preferences

Trump making an innocent joke about being impeached if he doesnt also invite the women's team to SOTU, and then the entire female gender completely melting down over it... just too perfect

You know what the end result would look like of an extreme vetting system?

One that would make people scream it was a racist one to begin with.

So why beat around the bush here? So we can project an outward perception of tolerance? Nonsense....

I’m not sure why (R) isn’t putting their political capital behind such a system.

A screening that ends with a thumbs up or down based solely on country of origin is a recipe for missing out on a lot of net producers, and worse, letting in a bunch of net takers.

How about we just accept each immigrant regardless of where they come from strictly on merit.

I know...what a radical concept.

It seems impractical to me at our current scale, but it doable, sturg33 endorses.

Whats wrong with this?

THe end result will be something you think is racist becuase it will be heavily weighted towards particular races.

I agree. The end result would look roughly the same

Whites and Orientals - Ticket to a successful country that is still civil and clean.

Why act like any merit based system wouldn't result in that composition? Just so we can act like we are SUPER NOT RACIST? GTFO - We have a country to save. I have fucking children and I want them to grow up in as great of a country as I did.

Nothing’s wrong with it! You said when you made that post that we should evaluate people based strictly on individual merit, not based on country of origin. Fast forward a couple of years and I’m offering that exact opinion and you’re acting like I’m some sort of squishy leftist. Not sure why you changed your opinion.

A merit based evaluation system would certainly lead to different entry rates by country of origin, but it’s not inherently racist.

Yes because I know a merit based system will bring in the people a society would want and the end result would be mostly White & Orientals.

And again - I don't believe when I say Africans/Arabs/Indians have lower IQs so I don't want them here is racist. ITs a data based argument to ensure we have a functioning country.

Being 'racist' didn't drop out of the sky from nowhere. Acting like it did is just plain silly.

Are you telling this to 2021 thethe or to me?

So be it. At least it would be a meritocracy.

If a school bases admission on SAT scores and ends up with no people of a particular race because no one makes the grade, that’s not racist.

If a school decides it’s going to outright ban people of a certain race without even looking at their SAT scores because their data suggests they’ll probably never make the grade anyway, that would be racist.
