Shelby Miller Traded To The Cubs [FALSE ALARM]

Bittersweet. Young pitcher under control for a few more years. I like Miller but anxious to see what we would get in return if they trade him. It better be a clear win. I've been a huge supporter of the front office, but got the feeling this morning that we are trading him just to shed more money we wouldn't have to pay in the future.

...then again that feeling might stem from the results of watching the cowboys vs Skins game last night.

This won't be a salary dump. This is to get offense. We are trading from excess for a position of need. Even with miller gone we will have ready and waiting for 2017. Folty, wisler, manban, Newcomb, jenkins, Julio, and then possibly gant, sims, ellis, and Whalen.... Plus we have Perez and weber as whatever's

My only wonder is if we trade for power bat in the OF. Does that hurt us if we need to move nick in a trade. I guess e could try HO at second.

As long as we have the legitimate threat of keeping Nick, HO, and the new OF and just moving HO to third then it wont hurt is in trying to trade Markakis. I don't see us trading Markakis though. I think we probably actually do move HO to another position if we get another OF.

Suffice to say that I'm nervous as hell what's going to transpire, and hope that we actually get a haul in return for a pitcher that I believe is on the cusp of breaking out and being a very very good top of the rotation type pitcher, maybe not elite, but certainly next level. After the HO and Simmons trades, though, I'm gunshy about this FO although I was happy with the moved up to that point.

Holding out hope that it's ARI. That's likely our best chance of winning big on this trade.

I don't think it's terrible to sell high on him now. His value could be even more next offseason, but could also be less.

I agree 100% that this should be a win for us. After the FO has stated that they aren't shopping, have no interest in moving him and would only listen, it should be a clear victory in the deal if something comes together.

I hope it's not Arizona bc without Pollock I'm not interested. The Cubs could trade both Soler and Baez but have pieces like Underwood, Contreras, and McKinney that are very good. Boston has Swihart and Devers (my favorite package ). And Austin Meadows from Pittsburg. I'm sure they are weighing everybody's offer but I could see Miller and Teheran both traded with as much interest that's in them.

I like Baez quite a bit more than Soler. Plus Soler has already used up a year of service time, a not insignificant consideration. I'd be happy with Miller for Baez.

Well. This is annoying. There are so many false reports! I bet they had a deal and it fell through and are looking to put it together. Or someone picked up their offer

I have a bad feeling we are all going to be quite disappointed in the return we get for Shelby and are going to wish we had kept him.

I am already disappointed that we are thinking of trading Shelby. He is a great pitcher.. but you have to build a team, and to do that, you need to part with assets that are good. there is risk involved, but you still have to do it. Or you can sit in the corner and suck your thumb and do nothing while hoping something will change..

That's just not enough for me. If Baez is the centerpiece coming over from the Cubs, I hope they expand the deal a bit where we throw in another pitching prospect (mid-range) and they throw in someone like McKinney. Or we send them Bethancourt and we get Contreras. Then we sign Tyler Flowers and let Contreras go to finishing school in Gwinnett for the first half of 2016.

Well build your damn team around a guy like Shelby, and maybe we should have acquired some hitting in the trades we're we purged a lot of other valuable assets instead of acquiring 398 pitchers, half of which are recovering from Tommy John surgery. And the one offensive guy we have acquired is going to be beyond a disaster, for a good middle of the rotation lefty pitcher and a top infield prospect, that probably could have landed us a huge get in LuCroy at a position of need this offseason.

We sucked in the late 80's and 90's, I guess we should have traded Smoltz, Glavine, and Avery for hitters.
