Shelby Miller

Could be interesting, but i dont think we move Miller. Just dont have the vibe as I do with Teheran, Markakis, Maybin, etc.

But it would be a good fit for someone like Baltimore.....they need SP and OF help....send them Miller and Markakis....only question is does Baltimore have the talent to send back

Or I would look to Houston, Miller and Freeman....

Maybe something along the lines of:

Carter

A.J. Reed (hit .340 with 34 homers in 135 games this season, at first base, I think this was his first year?)

Michael Feliz

Francis Martez

Eh, for both those guys? I would definitely want more than that return. AJ Reed had a great year, but he didn't even make the midseason top 50 prospect list. I'd like to get him in a deal, but if we're including both Miller and Freeman, I start with Reed, Martes, and Bregman. Feliz doesn't excite me, given the other pitching prospects we have currently.

If we dealt Miller and Freeman i'd want 3 good hitting prospects back and then some, or guys close to MLB ready, we have enough pitching on the farm.

There is no such thing as too much pitching. Pitchers unlike a lot of players have a lot of roster versatility. We need 5 starters and 7 relievers and depth behind them to account for injuries. If we trade some I want them to get established in the majors first. The value of a quality pitcher with 4-5 years of service time left is a **** ton higher than a AAA pitching prospect who is "ML ready".

There is absolutely a point at which you're getting diminishing returns by pursuing more pitching while you have a huge need for bats. I'm not really sure what you're saying here. Are you saying we should keep loading up on pitching prospects, then wait until they're established in the majors to consider trading any of them?

Worth a shot considering Dave Stewart is calling the shots there.

Good. I hope they keep asking for that level of talent back. That's a clear win if they agreed to it. Still think it makes almost too much sense to make a deal with the Cubs. They are quoted as wanting "pitching at all levels". We could trade them an established starter(Teheran/Miller), someone ready to start(Perez/Folty), someone close(Sims/Jenkins) and guys further away. We could do this and still be stacked at Sp prospects. So it probably won't happen.

Seriously. I just imagine the talent we could get back.

I think the Cubs and Astros are the most logical trade partners for the Braves. Both have positional talent to trade, and both need pitching. Both could also use a decent affordable OF option like Markakis and/or Maybin that could be part of an expanded deal.

Interesting players from the Astros are Bregman (top 25 prospect blocked at SS and 2B by Correa and Altuve), and Tucker (top 50ish prospect who isn't blocked, but is a couple years away).

Agreed.

I would be targeting Kyle Tucker, Jorge Soler, Billy McKinney, Ian Happ, and Daz Cameron. If we could figure out a way to land two out of that group, I would be ecstatic. The only specific arms that would off-limits, IMO, would be Allard, Toussaint, Fried, and either Sims or Newcomb (I would consider giving up one of the latter two, but not both).

Add in Bregman from the Astros and Torres (top 30ish prospect) from the Cubs.

The only reason I left them off is because, while certainly the talent level would be warranted, we don't have an immediate or future need at SS. I would hate to trade Simmons for pitching and then turn around and use some of our pitching surplus for a SS.

Bregman could potentially be moved to 3B, but I'm not sure his offense will be good enough for him to be a great player there.

The 5 I listed are the 5 I'd be most excited about getting.

Thinking about what kind of package the braves could get back by packaging Miller and Freeman is mind boggling!

Astros get:
Miller
Freeman

Braves get:
Reed
Bergman
Appel
Cameron or Tucker

Basically their farm system for the 2....Astros are in a win now mode with a good core at the MLB level that could be pushed over the top by the addition of Freeman and Miller. The Braves in a rebuild add major talent including some position prospects...now Bergman and Albies compete for the starting SS position, then you trade one OR the better option, switch one to 2b

If it was truly up to me I would go with a 9 man rotation with 3 pitchers throwing 3 innings every 3 games. Then a closer/1 inning specialst, a LH long reliever, and a RH long reliever. Pitchers should be healthier since they would max out around 170 innings. I know this wont happen.

Anyways, Yes I was suggesting we wait until they establish themselves in the majors before trading them. Dont pay anyone market value contracts. Its too risky with pitchers.

I really like Shelby and would love for him to sign an extension and stay here for the next 5-6 years. What we don't know is how he handled his W-L record last season. We all know wins and losses don't mean anything for a pitcher, but if he took it personally, then he's not up for an extension and should be traded. If he sees where we could be headed and wants to be a part of it, then we should resign him to an extension and keep him.

I'm sure the Dodgers checked in to see if they could screw us again. If Greinke signs elsewhere they could get desperate. What would be a realistic deal with the Dodgers be?

I would think you still start discussions with Urias and go from there. Puig would make sense for both teams. Seagers is a pipe dream. I hear they have a guy named Peraza who is pretty good....

No reason Miller shouldnt get a top 50 prospect plus a couple other intriguing pieces if not someone like Puig or someone that can help now

Honestly, I don't think we're a terribly attractive proposition for a guy to sign an extension. I think his useful years are the next three, and they really don't do us any good. Trade for a hitter. Pollock and Soler both sound good to me.
