Shelby to AZ for E. Inciarte, A. Blair, and Dansby Swanson

At this point, i'd still be floating Teheran out there. Obviously there is demand for young pitching all of a sudden. Cubs, Bosox, SFG, LAD, among others could still be a match. Will also be interesting to see if we trade Markakis. In this market, his contract has to be appealing for someone.

This is at the end of Miller wrapup at MLBTR:

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported that Miller was going to Arizona (Twitter link). Joel Sherman of the New York Post added that Inciarte and others were going to Atlanta (also on Twitter). The Arizona Republic’s Nick Piecoro reported that Swanson and Blair were in the deal (Twitter link). Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reported that Speier would also go to Arizona.

Gee, what two names aren't anywhere to be found? Bowman and O'Brien? What a shock. The entire world scooped the ATL writers. Maybe they were at the Opry.; we know how DOB likes music.

My goodness. If you'd told me we were just getting Swanson for Shelby I'd be jumping for joy. Instead we add a top pitching prospect and a quality OF with 5 years of control? This is insanity. Right now I'm just a little upset that the Diamondbacks have run out of players they would need from us.

Bowman was busy at the buffet...

Swanson = MI, LO man of the future.
Blair = Wisler type starter
Inciarte = major league minimum Markakis

Outstanding Coppy. But don't stop now. See what you can get for Markakis, Teheran, Freeman. You don't HAVE to take it. But see what you can get....

Quite a haul. I take it the rules have changed so teams can trade guys drafted the previous June without having to wait a year.

Good luck to Shelby. Loved watching him pitch. I appreciated how he didn't throw anyone under the bus even though those surrounding him probably cost him 3 or 4 wins. Took a lot of composure.

And welcome to the new guys. Looks like Bourn is heading back to the bench and we have two more solid prospects. I know next to nothing about Dansby Swanson, so I will take your guys' word that he's a potential big-time guy.

Marlins main writer.

Heard #Marlins #Dbacks were discussion Jose for Corbin, Inciarte, Blair, Swanson, Drury.

No one trades young position players for young pitching. There is a pitchin surplus !

Slow down a bit. They (AZ) traded a guy they drafted in June. I am thrilled with the trade. But it's not like Swanson is sitting in AAA with a real shot to break camp. The Braves traded for talent over immediacy, but that talent is still a ways away. That's as it should be: Quantity AND Quality based on where and when you want to be not where and when you are now.

The DBacks were very straightforward last year about believing they had a window to compete now, and capitalizing on it. Some of that came in the aftermath of the Touki trade. Say what you will, they have a plan and they are sticking to it, right or wrong.

Damn, it sure looks like we hosed them. I had prepared myself for an underwhelming return for Shelby. I'm thrilled with this.

3-4 wins? Try 8-10 wins.

What else do you need to know about Swanson? He was the #1 overall pick 6 months ago.

Weren't you the one who jumped my ass for saying how bad our beat writers are? :happy0157:

A lot more. I'm old and have seen more than one #1 draft pick underwhelm. I was talking more about tool grades.

He is the #10 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com. Here is what they say about him:

Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 45 | Run: 60 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 60

Swanson's Vanderbilt career started slowly, but he was the Most Outstanding Player in the 2014 College World Series, then helped the Commodores get back to the championship series again in 2015 en route to becoming the No. 1 pick in the Draft. He signed right at the deadline for the highest bonus in the class, $6.5 million, still well below the assigned pick value.

The top college position player in the Draft class, Swanson moved from second base to shortstop for his junior season and showed everyone he can stay there. Most scouts believe he has the quickness and arm strength to stay at the position long-term, even though he hadn't played there since he was a Georgia high schooler in 2012, when the Rockies drafted him in the 38th round.

Swanson is a technically sound hitter who fits at the top of his lineup with his on-base ability and speed. He showed as a junior that there might be Major League average power in his bat as well. His makeup is off the charts and universally praised by coaches and scouts.
