Shelby to AZ for E. Inciarte, A. Blair, and Dansby Swanson

I like that line of thought, but I think the Cubs would have to add something like Underwood to it. That single trade fixes their CF and SP holes for a LONG time. It also allows them to go out and sign Heyward. They would be stacked!

The Cubs would not add something to that. You're not getting Soler and Baez for Teheran and Inciarte

Probably not. But you are going to need guys like this and C is a great place for this kind of player to sit. I think they see Ender\Aybar at 1\2 in the lineup.

Agreed. Only reason to move him would be if he were a piece of a deal for an impact bat. I like that we apparently care about up-the-middle defense again.

You're underestimating Inciarte. That's a pretty even trade for two guys who haven't really proved anything yet.

this is my stance with players.. I really value tangible numbers that show something more so than potential. I love Beaz and Soler.. but both have big ? surrounding them. Julio and Ender are just good solid players who are going to produce X numbers for you year after year... I don't think you devalue that over potential every time..

I'm not arguing against holding onto him, but he's really not a big bat. He looks like a terrific defender who will not embarrass himself with the stick. More compelling than, say, Bourn/Live RH Platoon Partner, but not a difference-maker.

I disagree. A premier defender in CF who is also at least league-average with the bat is a difference-maker. IMO, Inciarte fills our hole in CF and he is likely more valuable now than Mallex will ever be. So I would hang onto him and have him play CF. It is huge to have a guy at any of the offensively-challenged positions (CF, SS, 2B, C) who is a decent hitter and can keep the lineup moving. Inciarte is exactly that while being extremely valuable in the field. And Swanson now allows us to move Albies to 2B and have two guys there who project to be above-average with the bat. That is huge for the rebuild going forward.

OK, that's a fair opinion, but what about a guy like Springer? He was a top 20 prospect, is controlled through 2021, and at age 25 just put up a .276/.367/.459 (.826 OPS) line with double digit SBs and avergae defense in RF.

Are you talking about giving up Inciarte and Teheran for Springer? Because I value Inciarte similarly to Springer actually...and it might be easier to find Springer's package somewhere else than Inciarte's. Inciarte is a really nice piece.

initially I was Meh.. but I am warming up.. I have been so involved with looking at the Dodgers, zona, cubs, red soxs minor league systems, that I am not sure what Huston has or even needs. I tell you this internet GMing is hard work..

but I would like a Julio/Springer deal.. maybe add some pieces to make it sweeter for both teams..

I'm not proposing any deals, but the Astros are supposedly looking for pitching. Teheran/Springer could certainly be the foundation for a deal. Definitely not Tehran and Inciarte together. Those 2 would be a package that should be the foundation of getting Soler plus Baez I would think.

Gotcha.

this is already looking good.. I am ready to pull the trigger.. 2018 we would be Royals 3.0.. better starting pitching and equally good pen..

1. Inciarte CF
2. Springer RF
3. Freeman 1B
4. Adonis/Rio/Riley/FA 3B
5. Olivera 3B
6. Swanson SS
7. FA? C
8. Albies 2B
9. Pitcher

the overall perception across the board is that the Braves got a great package for Miller.....the D-Backs are in win now mode, so it is not really a terrible trade for them

I think the overall perception is that it was a terrible trade for them. As the fangraphs article title stated 'DBacks trade for Ace, get Shelby Miller'. And that's no disrespect to Miller but I think his value was skyhigh due to that stellar first half and ended with a pretty low ERA. I think it's apparent the DBacks don't operate in the same world that most other FO's do and view things a little bit differently.

Inciarte would likely be hitting 7th or 8th in this lineup, and Swanson and Albies would almost certainly be at the top.

I didn't really focus on order.. Springer wouldn't be hitting second. I could have spent more time ordering them.. just more put the names down..

Ugh! Look, dude, your 2018 proposed lineup based on hypotheticals and projections is clearly wrong. Just accept it.

Nah, the general consensus is that this was a horrible trade for them. It's not about them wanting to win now, it's about opportunity cost. For what they paid, they likely could have gotten a pitcher in the Carrasco/Harvey/Grey tier if they had bothered to talk to anyone but the Braves.

On top of that, it's silly to give away a proven major league talent like inciarte if you're trying to win now. Unless Miller does take another step forward this year, the loss of inciarte will likely cancel out most of what they gain from Miller.
