Shooting at Washington Navy Yard

Ill take a shot in the dark here but.... On heavy meds, and history of mental issues. How close am I?

... you forgot -- free to buy weapons without a question being asked
as long as we are guessing -- take a shot in the dark. Alexis wouldn't be allowed to leave the pound with a stray dog.

yes, we are doing "the gun thing again"

That has got to rank top 5 on the Inane Post Top Ten

How's bout something as simple as a background check. Alexis would have been found and authorities put on notice -- what was the phrase surrounding 9/11.

Connect the dots?

"the gun thing again" good lord how do you feed yourself

Police had "multiple engagements" with Navy Yard shooter-Police Chief Lanier

Yes the gun thing again...where the same points and hypotheticals are repeated ad nauseum and we get treated to a bunch of outliers that ignore underlying trends.

And if I don't agree with calls for tougher "gun control," I don't care as much as you do? Classy as always.

how much could you possibly care after this past years mass shootings to type the statement "the gun thing again".

Tell the Sandy Hook families or the families of the people above that non sense. Or go back to the Aurora Families who's sisters and cousin made the mistake of going to the movies

or even better -- Go to a public appearance of Gabby Giffords and use the phrase "the gun thing again". Then define your meaning and intent of "outliers that ignore underlying trends" to her or the family of Frank Kohler or 62 year old Kathleen Gaarde. Wonder if she had Grandchildren? Tell them 57 bores you talking about "the gun thing again" or even better show off your erudition by using the term ad nauseum.

Go read up on Miley Cyrus or a Kardashian.

My response has nothing to do with those people and everything to do with the banter that goes on at this forum.

I might take a break lecturing others on their reading comprehension for a while if I were you...

"if you were me" -- you would have avoided this conversation - but, you aren't me.

and, your response, whether you realize it or not, has everything to do with "those people"

On the three-year old shooting himself.

Unbelievable parenting there that the kid even had access to it.

can't argue with that one bit. But,
there are lots of bad parents. Parents that let their kids curse. Parents whose kids steal and lie. Parents who try to live through their kids. Parents who starve their kids of affection. Parents who let their kids wear trendy cloths. Parents that let their kids watch too much TV Parents that insist their kid is the next Derek Jeter when it is clear to everyone he isn't even the next Pepe Frias.

But, few whose kids accidentally get shot. In their own home.
Suppose that weapon wasn't in that home? Or that parent hadn't grown in a culture that glorified gun violence (you can add video games here).

when I was a kid it was common to blame Rock n Roll for teenage girls getting pregnant when actually there was a little more to it than that. Same thing here -- bad parenting in this case is Elvis impregnating all those girls

So just so we're clear, if you do not support increased gun legislation, you do not care for the victims of mass shootings?

Do you show care for the victims by turning your head and looking the other way? As if it didn't happen. How do you honor those people that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? By ignoring any solution that could help avoid this happening again?

Look at it this way Ace -- suppose there was an intersection in front of a convenience store where in the past 12 months there have been 16 accidents killing 82 people.
I would think a traffic light would be in order.
Agree or disagree?

I just noticed . This list didnt include the school outside Atlanta a month or so back where the bookkeeper talked a shooter down where his intent was to do massive harm

I agree on those points, but a gun will definitely get a kid killed. Was the weapon the parent's weapon? Responsibility is the main point here. People who are responsible with their weapons don't let things like that happen.

As to the issue of guns in general, obviously there needs to be a real examination of who's allowed to obtain them and how easy it is for delusional sociopaths to obtain them.

So the answer to my question is yes, then.

Just curious, what are those "solutions?" Ban so called "assault weapons?" He didn't use one. Actually, he used Joe Biden's self-defense gun of choice...a shotgun. Background checks? He had a security clearance that was updated in July.

I think that is all anyone is asking but I would add how easy in general it is to obtain them.

My guess is if the 3 year olds father is irresponsible to the point of allowing a 3 yr old to be in a position to be accidently shot in the home he at some point displayed a level of irresponsibility that would come out in a background check.

A security clearance is not the same as a background check. As evidenced with the Snowdon Case - the system of security clearances awarded to defense contractors is an obviously out dated system and a conversation for another day.
Had the (Sen Feinstein) proposed background check been in affect when he went to buy that shotgun it would have come up a screaming red flag. Lioke I said above, if he went to the pound to rescue a puppy he'd have been turned down

Assault weapons - though I know it isn't real to think they will be outlawed any time soon. I would like to see them heavily regulated. As long as I'm making a wish list I'd like to see weapons and firearms manufacturers taxed to the high heaven. I find it unconscionable people are actually getting rich off of domestic weapons. Be they in Sandy Hook, Conneticut or the rough sides of Chicago. They all have the same source

I still can't understand why 57 doesn't get this upset about our mass drone killings...

Either way - it's impossible to have a legitimate debate with him about this subject because if you're argument isn't "Ban all guns and jail anyone who has them," then he just starts naming names of dead folks who were killed by guns.

it's not even worth the time anymore.
