Should we call up Waters?

Didn’t see the game today but it sounds like Ender is down. With Pache on the IL already do we call up Waters?

The other options would be we could go with Arica and have Adrianza be the 4th OF till Pache returns or that we could call up someone like Demeritte while we wait for Pache to return.

Personally I think it’s a good opportunity to bring up Waters and see what he’s got. The risk production wise is minimal. When Pache returns we’ll see where we’re at.

At the same time Pache should be back fairly soon and it’s far too early to punt on him. A temporary measure might make more sense. I don’t know that I want Heredia to spend any real time in the lineup though.

No. We strikeout enough, why bring up another player that will strikeout even more? Role with what we’ve got. When we do bring someone up it’ll probably be Ervin or Almonte anyway.

DOB mentioned Abraham Almonte and Phil Ervin are at the alternate site and we have an extra 40 man slot. Not sure either can play CF

Waters and Harris are both at minor league spring training. I’m guessing they’d be at the alt site if they were serious candidates to come up.

Yeah. He's no good so we don't have to worry about wasting his service time on a lost season.

So if Acuña is down too does it start to make more sense to roll with Waters? Does Harris make sense? We’re getting real low on OF real quick. The other options immediately available seem really unappealing.

With Pache, Ender, and Acuna ailing, using Waters in spot starting duty and as an defensive replacement in the short term isn't a terrible idea. But he shouldn't get much playing time. No point in getting him into some bad habits trying to impress to the brass or risk taking the some of the shine off his prospect status by showcasing his flaws to the world.

Still don't think they'll go there without exhausting every other possible alternative. Sending him down so early in camp indicates they're not ready to add him, and I can't imagine he's had enough time to change their minds since they're not actually playing games anywhere else yet. Given Pache's struggles, burning someone else's service time when they're not quite ready seems a little crazy - even with the *hitty situation they're faced with.

Just have to figure they'll burn through the AAAA options available and give Riley and Adrianza time in the OF before they go there. They still haven't added Arcia - he could become the utility IF with Camargo taking over at 3B when Riley plays RF too. Plus Demeritte has options and has at least shown flashes at times.

I could see another trade of "non-essential arms" for a 4th OF type who has options remaining before Waters enters the conversations. The Orioles are about to activate Austin Hays - they're playing D. J. Stewart. Texas has our old pal Charlie Clutch - even though he's been playing well I doubt they're THAT attached to him.
