Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

Btw I'm generous enough to allow you to shift the conversation from Maryland vis a vis Oklahoma and West Virginia to Baltimore. I could retaliate by bring up the poorest cracker counties in those states. The dysfunctions of life there makes for some colorful literature, plumbed by no less than our sitting vice president.

why would you want to divert though? Your argument is that blue policies produce great outcomes. Baltimore is a huge city, in a thriving state, next to the nation's capitol... Why do you want to talk about West Virginia rather than understand the issue there?

Yes. Blue states have made policy choices that have produced outcomes that are superior. Y'all have been reduced to arguments like the hospitals are so far away. As if that was an immutable law of nature.

im curious what our academic thinks about this specific place, whether he thinks it is independently thriving, and if not, why?

note - I'm not interested in comparing it to any other place

The guy can't stop losing. Its incredible.

The problem is that people like BL can find stats and news articles that distort the truth.

People like BL live in world of whatever is being pushed at the time.

He still believes illegal immigration are a boon to America because he can find left wing garbage articles that support it with dubious stats.

Meanwhile in reality most places are trying to rid of illegals because they are an overall detriment.

So much of liberalism tells us to not to pay attention to our lying eyes.

Or that immigrants have lower crime rates than native populations.

Then when you have countries that actually track criminal activity by nationality the results yields the complete opposite conclusion.

These people are just lost and at this point its fun to laugh at them.

a curious mind might ask why Baltimore is struggling so greatly despite having 100% democratic rule for decades?

I'm curious. What is the problem there?

For every Baltimore there are dozens of cracker counties that have been red and dirt poor forever with all sorts of social pathologies. And we have seen blue states make advances in productivity, income, educational attainment, teeth retention and life expectancy that are much more impressive. What gives. Why does Maryland have life expectancy grow like Germany and Switzerland and Oklahoma look more like Mexico.

Maybe math is just harder in red states. Just like the distance between hospitals is longer.

Is our academic capable of analyzing an independent situation without trying to rationalize by finding a comparison to make it look less bad?

I'm not sure... when the city of LA was burning down, he started researching dental records. When a woman was lit on fire in NYC, he started searching for brown people crimes in Oklahoma.

Is this what academia is?

anyhow i'm all for LA and Baltimore studying Oklahoma and West Virginia carefully for whatever best practices they can learn from them...we are all capable of learning from others

"Professor, thanks for the lecture. You mentioned that blue policies lead to better outcomes. I was looking at some major blue cities like Baltimore, for example. Their outcomes seem bad compared to the rest of country? What do you think is driving that?"

Nsacpi: "such a silly question. Let me show you the failure of this no name town in West VA. D- for you, silly student. Only reason not an F is we have to keep graduation rates high so we can raise tuituon"

Blue state policies have contributed to superior outcomes on educational attainment, income, health, lifespan and teeth retention. Baltimore notwithstanding. We can play the cherry-picking game by comparing Baltimore with the most impoverished and socially dysfunctional areas of Oklahoma and Kentucky. It would be a fun game, but not illuminating. There are over a dozen mostly cracker counties with life expectancies below 70 in Kentucky. We've entered Laos and Uganda territory here. But hey maybe Baltimore can learn somethang from them.

But I am not interested in a comparison. I'm interested - curious actually - why Baltimore is struggling so badly? That is an independent thought away from red state comps. Similarly, when LA was burning to the ground, I was curious about what happened there. I was not curious about dental records of Oklahoma.

So professor, why do you think such a large and important city, who sits in a thriving state and next to our capitol, has such bad outcomes?
