I had already edited in something related into my response, but typical engagement ****. You’re asking young people to take a highly dangerous and difficult job for reasonable, but not exceptional pay. A big reason the DEI programs in corporations existis not to meaningfully impact diversity, but to pretend they are to gain positive internal and external engagement. You can much more easily get someone to risk their lives for an organization giving back to its diverse community than to just say you’re going to pick up leaves in the forest and maybe die when we underfund you eventually.

It is not an operational plan, it is a fluff statement. If we want to play semantics, I’ll remind you the first priority is public safety and emergency response. That encompasses everything related to putting out fires, so it was the top priority.

the problem is DEI bull**** actually dissuades masculine white men - the prototype for traditional fire fighter. We have seen this in the military - who embraces their DEI virtue signaling resulting in a collapse of recruitment.

I think that’s actually a fair critique organizationally, but I cannot stress enough how hopeless the situation was going to be with or without the initiative. This is like asking the Coast Guard to stop a hurricane and then complaining about the recruitment efforts of the Coast Guard for being too woke.
 
The one place you won’t actually see me disagree with Conservatives, it’s performative DEI. It’s actually worse than Conservatives give it credit for, because the US Government is actively weaponizing it in recruiting to combat the fact that young people have figured out it’s a bad ****ing deal and are appealing to diversity not to provide opportunities, but rather to find new marks once blind patriotism stopped being effective.
 
For anybody wondering why this is bull****, please answer this one question for me:

If the Fire Chief of Los Angeles, essentially a politician who will never be fighting fires, is unqualified because of being a lesbian, which apparently essential quality to doing the job is the current one lacking: having a dick or being sexually attracted to one?
 
We have people on twitter questioning why live trees are still standing in neighborhoods where every house burned. Somehow these people can't understand why dry wooden houses filled with flamable materials burns much easier and quicker than living trees filled with water.

1. I don't really care that she's a lesbian. But she did... the city did, and they made a big deal out of it as if it were some sort of accomplishment to celebrate

2. It's probably best that the fire chief be an expert on how to put out fires, and able to do so if needed

3. Have a gay woman, or frankly any women, lead the unity probably doesn't help in recruiting masculine men

4. We really shouldn't be celebrating asking women to go and do deadly jobs in our society

1) They did when it was time to talk about such things. She’s not going on television this week to talk about her sexual orientation. You’re the only jackasses making a tragedy about her preference.

2) Then I suppose it’s a good thing she’s spent an entire career putting out fires and leading people who put out fires before taking on this role.

3) That sounds like masculine men problem more than an LA Fire Department problem.

4) We shouldn’t be celebrating anybody doing deadly jobs in our society. But nobody forced her to choose this life, she did so willingly and advanced to the highest post in her city over the course of a decades-long career.

2. Can she carry your limp body up a basement stairs full of smoke and fire? I'd wager not

3. Sounds like a job that needs a person who can do point 2 above to be optimal
