Sliwa is kind of right to be pissed off here. He won the damn Republican Primary and conservative commentators are trying to pressure him to abandon the conservatives in NYC that voted for him a few months ago to prop up the chances of a pair of corrupt politicians who failed to win the Democratic Primary.

Nah, I disagree. Certainly the cons vastly outweigh the pros here, but the cultural fabric of some truly solid rap music and gang culture are pretty intertwined, and there must be some economic stimulation *somewhere* from the influx of gang money.
I dunno man, they make that rap music too and the stuff with gangs/drugs is often much better.
My guy, I’m fucking around here. You asked what benefits could possibly come from gangs and I provided some tongue-in-cheek ones. But it’s not fun anymore if I have to actually defend gangs.
No, gangs are bad, violence is bad, I’m not actually pro-crime, nor am I willing to excuse any bad actor from their individual accountability to their actions. I’m very strongly in favor of some criminal justice reforms and different approaches to governing/policing inner cities but I don’t fail to recognize the problems at hand or appreciate the harm done by gangs.
