Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

since i'm in insufferable snob mode...let's look at classical music...the top 6 orchestras in the united states as rated by Europaphilharmonie:

1. New York
2. LA
3. Boston
4. Cleveland
5. Chicago
6. San Francisco

Only Cleveland's presence averts a shutout.

And then you look at the top music schools. Here's a good list:

7 out of 25 in red states. Which actually shocks me. None in the top 6. By and large red states are cultural deserts (which i'm sure many of y'all wear as a kind of badge of honor). Sorry for the full snob mode assessment. It is what it is.

The best things about our culture--whether it be arts or advanced institutions of scientific research--are fairly abundant in blue states and sadly lacking in red states

This discussion reminds me of my favorite Futurama episode, The Lost City of Atlanta. When Fry wants to stay Zoidberg says "I mean, sure, they got the Braves but it's a third-rate symphony."

The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, where I enjoyed a game of Pong for the first time since high school. Pong was developed by Atari, then domiciled in Sunnyvale. It helped spawn a pretty big industry, much of it still centered in California.

hmmm...i guess red means last person out turn off the lights please

but i kind of understand why a young person in say eastern Oregon might head to Portland, for the good-paying jobs and fancy coffee shops and a wee bit of culture

This one is two years old... but it's pretty telling how it is basically a reverse map of the electorate.

Why do the blue states keep moving to the horrifyingly bad red states?

The good news for you nsacpi... is the the people who are fleeing that awful policies... will keep voting for the same policies in their new homes.

what about change in life expetancy

the Census Bureau has estimates by state from 2010 to 2018

life expectancy has fallen in 18 states during this period (kinda shocking)...14 of those 18 went for very poorly chosen one in 2016 (this part is not shocking)

not only are things bad in those states, they keep getting worse relative to the rest of the country
 
California and New York had the two biggest increases in life expectancy. Not fair. They do so many things wrong and yet people there keep getting richer and living longer.
