Maybe. But a lot of these bad outcomes reflect things other than the standard and availability of medical care. Pathologies related to obesity, alcohol abuse, drugs and disinformation have risen throughout the country, but the rise is especially pronounced in rural areas and small towns.

When we had little technology in the medical field there was little difference between urban and rural life spans. The gap will get keep getting bigger as technology advances. We all love the rural life but it ends up killing you in the end.
"The trends in overdose deaths have changed over time between urban and rural settings. Rates are higher in urban areas from 1999 to 2003 compared to rural areas and they were also higher in 2016 through 2020. But there was a time from 1999 to 2020 where rates were higher in rural areas, being 2007 through 2015. There were increases in overdose rates involving synthetic opioids other than methadone from that overlapping period. Which includes fentanyl, fentanyl analogs and tramadol and although we’ve been seeing over the recent time period that rates in urban rural areas have increased, the increases were larger in urban areas, which likely helped push this overall higher rate in urban areas in the subsequent years or more recent years of the study"

You have a point. To some extent the technology is offsetting the rise in similar pathologies in urban areas.

As I've said the lack of better medical care hurts rural Americans' life span. Studies have shown the further you're away from a hospital risk of death increases.
