First of all, $260 a credit isn't necessarily common.

You're also leaving out transportation, books (which is another **** ton of money), and all the university fees they give you.
Paying your way through college is a pipe dream for a large majority of people. And besides, should we WANT all of our kids to be working FT while going to school FT? Shouldn't we, uh, NOT want that? Education in general will suffer. We should be fighting AGAINST that, not pushing FOR IT.
I find it hard to believe that there aren't plenty of universities in the country that can match or even beat what the cost of a New York university can charge.
If that kid from CAMDEN as you put it decided to focus in high school he/she could get a job at a bank anywhere in the country and get tuition reimbursement. Oh I know, how could we ever expect someone to focus hard enough to finish high school!
