SOTU?

Dude, you are GOLD.
First of all, $260 a credit isn't necessarily common.
"Even more so if you are working somewhere with tuition reimbursement." YEP, because those jobs are plentiful and a person raised in Camden will definitely land one. You're SO right.
You're also leaving out transportation, books (which is another **** ton of money), and all the university fees they give you.
Paying your way through college is a pipe dream for a large majority of people. And besides, should we WANT all of our kids to be working FT while going to school FT? Shouldn't we, uh, NOT want that? Education in general will suffer. We should be fighting AGAINST that, not pushing FOR IT.

I find it hard to believe that there aren't plenty of universities in the country that can match or even beat what the cost of a New York university can charge.

If that kid from CAMDEN as you put it decided to focus in high school he/she could get a job at a bank anywhere in the country and get tuition reimbursement. Oh I know, how could we ever expect someone to focus hard enough to finish high school!

Not what I ****ing said. Stop straw-manning every single argument of mine.

You say that wealthy people are just screwing us all over. Funny you don't mention any of the good they do. Sounds pretty one sided to me.

*raises hand*

I'm a top 10% by government standars. My gf and future wife is studying to be an orthopedic surgeon.

By the way, I was raised by a teacher and a secretary. In order to go to college, I took $40K out in loans. I've already paid those loans back.

IMPOSSIBLE!

Progressive tax is discrimination. Just admit that you support income discrimination and we'll move on.

It seems like we could get by without an income tax if we tried hard enough. But that require cutting some spending, and that is no-no

So... let's discuss this. I'm curious about 57's and Yeezus' thoughts...

I'm raised in a lower-middle class home. I go to college on loans and get a good job making a good salary. I decide to start my own business and and become a multi-millionaire within 10 years.

Now - you're telling me I need to be taxed higher because I have more money. This of course, isn't "fair." Unless you want to make the argument that the government has put in the resources that allowed me to become wealthy - so I should pay more. But then I'd suggest that those same resources were available to my next door neighbor who is now ringing up people in the local Walmart.

So tell me - why do I have to pay a greater % of my income than my next door neighbor? Simply because I can afford to?

The jobs you have created are also an indirect contribution made by you in that scenario.

yes.

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Interesting - so you want our government making laws based off the Bible...

You are evolving every day

Our laws that endure are based on what works and what doesn't work.
For everyone.

Our form of government elects people that represent all of us to find what works for
All of us.

So no, not making laws based on what is in the bible per se - but, what works most efficiently fo keep this happy family of 300M operating
everyday

//////

Income tax is how we operate. How we keep the lights turned on everyday. How we keep social order and how we, educate our kids.
Good for you and your sucess. But like Ted Williams and Bob Gibson -- not everyone has the same qualities you do. I am sure there are qualities someone else has that yu don't. Should they make the rules for you based on that. Your drain in the bathroom gets stopped up you call a plumber Christmas morning. Does he lecture you on how you should have gone to trade school to learn how to un stop a drain ???

Some day ...

Sweet so lets change the rules for the lazy part of the family. I can't see how that could be a bad decision in the long run.

Why do you insist that people that have less than you be it intellegence, ambition, tradition or whatever are inherently lazy ?

I dont get that.

Income tax is only 100 years old...

But I'm fine with your opinion. Just admit that you support discrimination and we will move on

(by the way - not sure if it was clear - but I do not have a multi-million dollar business - that was just for example purposes).

( yes I gathered. Still haven't answered about the Red Car though :)

This country has come a long way in the past 100 years. Fought and won two World Wars and fought numerous others.
Interstate hiway system, safe air travel , regulation and monitoring of our foods and this gadget we are communicating by. All for the most part funded by ... big brother.

It definitely is. There's no way around that fact. But you know the government, they wouldn't lower the 39.6% at the top to the 25% at the middle. They would increase them all to 39.6% or higher. Paying even 25% of your income is a bit excessive, in my opinion.
