Spring Training 2015

Does it not bother anyone that we traded Heyward, Justin, Gattis with the premise we needed to restock the farm and couldn't afford both Heyward and Justin in 2016, but then we're going out and getting Cahill, when Cody Martin could just as adequately fill that fifth spot?

Looks like that whole "veteran" logic is being applied here.

I enjoy watching young players break into the big leagues so for me thats why it will be more fun. Last years team was extremely difficult to watch.

You'll get to see Cody Martin, he's the 7th bullpen guy according to MLB.com. Folty to AAA.

Good, if he gets the innings. Might be the next man in the rotation if someone gets hurt.

I like Stults as a back end guy. He's a smart pitcher who relies on control and location rather than power and has always been underrated a pretty successful. That being said, I feel bad for Wandy since he pitched so great this Spring and was already basically told he'd have a job a few weeks ago.

Now that we know the opening day roster, here's the damage to come on the 40-man. We're at 38 after Winkler is put on the 60-day DL. We have 5 guys to add: EY, Stults, KJ, Martin, and Ciriaco.

The Braves actions from earlier this Spring suggest Elmer Reyes and Ian Thomas are in trouble. So assuming they're gone, that may mean that the victim of the Ciriaco decision (vs Cunningham) is one of the following: Yean Carlos Gil, Todd Cunningham, Eury Perez, or Mauricio Cabrera.

Another interesting option would be to DFA Dian Toscano and outright him to AAA. With a $6m tab, would anyone claim him? If they did, would we care?

I think better options will come available for a RH bench bat than a guy who's projected to put up a 600 OPS, but I have very little confidence we'll pull the trigger.

@mlbbowman
The #Braves will not officially announce the roster until tomorrow. Allows for chance to find better alternatives that might come available

@mlbbowman
But if better alternatives are not found, Ciriaco (bench) and Martin (bullpen) will be on the OD roster. #Braves

They won't DFA Toscano before seeing what he can do... I wouldn't think....

Yeah, definitely unlikely. Best case scenario is that they're able to trade a guy like Cunningham or Perez for a Ciriaco upgrade. Teams know we have a roster crunch though, so it's more like we will have to DFA one of them.

You call last year fun?

Dont make me laugh.

We won 79 games, so my guess is he would say no, and that's his point. Like watching young guys develop? Cool. We could have more and save money without aging vets and reclamation projects all over the place. I hope Cahill has a strong first half, and we're smart enough to convince a contender to overpay for him.

You should laugh... because we got rid of the only thing that worked last year (minus Freeman). Like I said earlier, we kept the garbage

We won 81 games, i wouldnt say it worked at all.

We did keep the garbage, they needed to move on from some of those players.

I'd say those three hitters helped us win quite a lot of games. Sure they were capable of slumps that were part of our larger problem, but they could also do things others on the team, except Freeman (offense) and Simmons (defense) couldn't. The support structure around them was crap.

Those who are on Hart's side are not going to be swayed... and those pissed that Heyward and Upton were traded will not be swayed. Nothing will change the outcome... no matter how much you b*tch and complain about it... no matter how whiny you sound. So, what good is it going to do?? I swear, its getting ridiculous and I don't understand the effort. If you can't let something go that you cannot change... how about you actually stop being a fan. If you can't get over it, why be a fan at all?

I'd say most of us are over it. Not going to stop us from saying we think it was wrong when it gets brought up. Not going to stop us from calling out questionable decisions the front office makes, even setting aside any trades we've made. Not going to stop me from disputing the notion that the three hitters we traded were "problems."

Why do people even bother watching or debating sports? I mean, they have no control over the outcomes.

I'll be watching every game and rooting for the guys with the tomahawks on their chest. I'll stack my love for the team up against any of yours any day.

Not really talking about you... and no, there are a number of posters who are certainly not over it... being critical and debating is one thing, but if you hate everything about an organization since said event... like a small number of posters clearly do... why even be a fan?

And going into this year with the same team minus 400 solid IP from Harang/Santana, others does what?

Same result except we get nothing for Jason/Justin.

But that doesn't make a team that strikes out less but scores far fewer runs and hits a lot of fly balls to second base any more enjoyable to watch.

Maybe we needed a re-build, maybe we didn't. If we did, it's hard to feel good about a season where our outfield is going to be Jonny Gomes- Eric Young Jr- Nick Markakis.

But a lot of posters feel that that is fun to watch.
