Spring Training 2015

Slightly off topic here, but Braves-related.

My new cable company here in South Carolina doesn't carry Fox Sports South, so looks like I'll be catching a lot of games on the radio when they aren't on their usual SportSouth or a national broadcast.

Anyone know if there's a full TV schedule for the season out yet?

MU2 is hurt . . .

@mlbbowman
Upton didn't complete today's workout because of right foot discomfort (near his big toe). He'll be further evaluated this afternoon.

@mlbbowman
It sounds like Upton will be sidelined for more than just a few days. Still waiting to hear the significance of his injury. #Braves

Brady Feigl impressing early...

@DOBrienAJC
If you're looking for early off-the-radar type who could make #Braves roster: lefty reliever Brady Feigl. He's impressing some imp't folks.

So is Toscano still having Visa issues? Is he at camp yet? All talk about this guy just completely vanished... sounded like he was going to at least compete for a 4th OF position and now I haven't heard him even in the conversation in the past 2 months or so.

@DOBrienAJC
Catcher Jesus Flores (visa issues) and Cuban OF Dian Toscano (gov't paperwork) are only #Braves who've not reported. Flores expected soon

Melvin looks like he'll start the season on DL. Eury Perez, Todd Cunningham, and perhaps Eric Young Jr. are candidates to play CF.

@Braves
Test results reveal inflammation in Melvin Upton’s left foot. Foot will be in short leg cast for 2 weeks, then walking boot for 4-6 weeks

Hunter can play centerfield too so I could see him in the mix if he impresses with the bat.

My memory sucks. Is Eury Perez the one Hart and company were comparing to Michael Bourn?

Nah that was Mallex Smith who we got in the Justin Upton trade. Perez bats right handed and has hit lefties well everywhere (small sample in the Majors) but needs to show he can handle righties in the Majors. If not he is still a possible candidate to platoon with the left handed Mallex Smith in centerfield down the road.

Actually the Bourn quote was about Eric Young Jr... When asked about EY he mentioned we hadn't had a guy with speed like that since Bourn

That’s who I’m thinking of. Hart was comparing his bunts to Bourn’s, IIRC.

our team just got better

An EY Jr./Eury Perez platoon in CF would appear to solve the leadoff issue and allow Markakis or Simmons to bat 2nd.

CF- EY/Perez

SS- Simmons

1B- Freeman

RF- Markakis

3B- Johnson

LF- Gomes/KJ

2B- ???

C- Bethancourt

Of course Peraza winning the 2B job if they're indeed allowing it to be an open competition would really help matters...

You certainly ought to be able to play a lot of small ball with that lineup.

That sounds like what Fredi said about EY Jr. recently to me. Maybe Hart said something similar but the first comp to Bourn was after the Justin Upton trade and about Mallex Smith (Hart was the first to compare Smith to Bourn publicly but according to McDaniel other Braves execs did the same).
