Spring Training 2015

Markakis now in camp. Sounds like there have been no setbacks and his timetable looks the same as what was discussed earlier this Winter . . . that's good news. Back-dated DL stint seems likely to me.

I'm getting more and more excited about this season. Its pretty clear they are molding this team around how the Royals and Giants built their clubs, and we will see what happens, but I'm one of the few that think we can compete with pitching and small ball. Future is super bright as well.

You should be thanking Hart & Co. Instead of jumping off the bandwagon the first 10 days of the season they saved you all that time and energy of actually having to watch those games before acting like a baby and giving up. I hear the Cardinals are gonna win it all this year, maybe try them?

If not, put that energy and time into something constructive that you otherwise would bitch about. Between you already writing off the 49rs and Braves without seeing pitch\play 1, you should have plenty of free time on your hands.

It may sound odd, but I'm actually more interested. I just don't think we were positioned to contend. I don't agree with all the off-season moves and I wish somehow they could have signed Heyward to a long-term deal, but that's the proverbial water under the bridge. Curious to see how the team does.

Agreed. Maybe looking forward to it with less joyful anticipation and more hopeful curiosity, but looking forward to it nonetheless. Being the ancient codger that I am, I remember 1991, a year following yet another last place finish. I suspect the odds of the Braves making the playoffs that year were at least as low as they are this year, but it turned out to be mighty fun. (Not as fun as it would have been had Hrbek been penalized for unnecessary roughness or had Lonnie Smith not hesitated coming around second, but still awfully fun.) Who's to say this year can't be like that, or at least a stepping stone to renewed greatness in the future? There's something to be said about subdued expectations. I'd rather be consistently great every year, but unexpected good results are mighty sweet. If they perform as expected, there can still be satisfaction in individual performance, progression by young players or something else completely unexpected.
 
I'm still heartened and excited when Spring Training rolls around, even if the season looks to be nasty medicine.
 
It's going to be rough watching the Braves be the worst offensive team in the league, but I'm excited because....baseball.

It has zero to do with a bandwagon and I thought you were smarter than that. The team is throwing in the towel for the next two seasons, so why should the fans care or throw their money at this team?

Because its not smart for me to spend my average $1000-$1500 and 200+ hours of my life watching this garbage product. I started grad school and will do homework instead.
 
This season may not give us the most product on the field, but I think we will see a group of guys play their hearts out and sometimes that's what it takes. We've seen more than enough teams who weren't expected to do anything, do a lot. After seeing these interviews with guys like Gomes, I think we will see some good games. The pitching and bench are underrated in my opinion. With a little offensive "magic," who knows.

^^^^This. I dont remember the last time i WAS this excited for a season. Braves fans act like we were good offensively last year. Guys, we sucked last year. I guarantee we will be better.
