Spring Training 2015

It's baseball season and it's the Atlanta Braves. I'm always interested I don't care what kind of offseason it was. To be honest, the offseason has made this Spring Training season very interesting to me. Mainly to see if Peraza can get himself into the discussion for making the big club and seeing what the new prospects are like on the field.

Because FAN dude.

Thick or thin, win or lose, good or bad.

What does it have to do with smarts?

But its tough to buy in on a team you know is going to suck. I can't root for anyone else, but its hard to get excited when you think the team hasn't got a prayer of being good.

I guess the way to go is delusion, which is part of the spring training ritual anyways.

My love for my teams never wavers. I can still be a fan of the Braves even though I think they are destined for a bad season. I feel like we have all been down this tiresome road 18 times.

I will shred your fan card if you do the same for me. We don't need them because we are bandwagon guys only.

I found the section below from DOB's latest article amusing and surprisingly honest. Hart seems to be referring to a group that would include Pedro Ciriaco, Sugar Ray Marimon, Chien-Ming Wang, Donnie Veal, and Zoilo Almonte. I have to wonder if they might also regret signing Jim Johnson given how many similar or better options were still available into February.

"There are about a dozen more in camp than usual because the Braves quickly signed some free agents to major league contracts or minor league deals with spring-training invitations. Some wouldn’t have been signed if the Braves had known for sure they’d be able to get many of the others who signed later in the offseason.

“I like to have a camp with about 52, 55 guys,” said John Hart, Braves president of baseball operations. “But we looked at it thoroughly before the winter, before a lot of the moves we made, we said we really need some protection and some support. So we jumped out on some guys in October or early November that we gave major league invites, because we just didn’t have a lot of protection at the time."

@mlbbowman what kind of shape is callaspo in?

@kelevra412 Not very impressive. Looks like he and I used the same personal trainer this winter

At least he is honest.

Thought JJ was only signed to a minor league contract with a camp invite?

While I can see where you're coming from, I doubt Hart has any regrets on Jim Johnson simply because Hart has been a longtime Jim Johnson fan. He use to rave about him when he worked for MLB Network. So I think it is more likely that Hart is just still a Johnson fan and hoping his boy Johnson will bounce back.

Took awhile for me to get excited for this season, but I'm there. I don't expect to contend, so watching young talent grow in so many questions is interesting. I'll retract my earlier statement about not watching any games this year. I bet we'll be better than people think.

Bowman's stock just went waaaaaay up.

Last time you were this uninterested in a baseball season?
On the contrary, I'm completely interested.

I'll admit my optimism is nearing Chuck Tanner mid-80s WTBS commercial levels (remember those? "We're gonna run and squeeze guys in!" or something like that), but I am looking forward to seeing how this re-tooled roster will perform. Should everything click and we exceed expectations, it will be an awesome season. If the Braves contend for the WC spots, we'll have gotten some things right and the future will look even better. Should we bounce around .500, I'll take the positives and hope for a better '16. If we do a St. Louis Browns, 1) there's always next year, and 2), cheap tickets. At its worst, it's still baseball.

Mark Bowman

@mlbbowman

Gomes on Upton (his former Rays teammate: "We used to call him Melvin to get under his skin."

Gomes: "I don’t think I could look at Bobby Cox walking around and say, Hey Bobby, we’re trying to go .500. What do you think about that?"

---

Hey, I kind of like this Gomes guy.

Gomes has been an awesome influence wherever he's been. Was personally a bit shocked when the Cubs didn't bring him in with Lester and Ross to help with those kids - would've been a great mix for them.

It has zero to do with a bandwagon and I thought you were smarter than that. The team is throwing in the towel for the next two seasons, so why should the fans care or throw their money at this team?

They shouldn't.

Now go find a winner to pull for.

I'd be very interested in this season if I knew we'd be bringing up the kids to get their feet wet. Don't care if it's Opening Day or after June.

If we're going to throw the old vets out there and hope we contend, may not be as interesting of a season. But I'd rather us go down with the young guys fighting it out there.
