Spring Training 2015

Anything else?

Well lets see...having enough speed to steal a base, having guys willing to give themselves up to move a guy up, and lay down bunts when needed. Under Frank's tenure the Braves were to much of an AL team. Say for instance we are facing Overratedburg and leadoff man in the third gets on. Actively trying to hit the ball to the side of the field that is called for. It is called situtional hitting. The Cards are generally pretty good at it. These guys are built to scratch run out. Last year it was I hope Freddie is hitting this inning.

Do you not think coaches do?

Probably a whole lot more than they should.

For example, John Buck is having a great spring. But we know he is terrible. Additionally, we know EY jr is terrible, yet Fredi will give him significant ABs based on his spring performance.

Do you not think coaches do?

They absolutely do. Which is how you get things like Merv Rettenmund saying in 2001 that Travis Wilson is the second-best hitter in the farm system behind Wilson Betemit, while Marcus Giles is leaping up and down in the background trying to get dad's attention.

Yeah, but here is what you don't know. EY may have his career year. I try to leave an open mind and give a guy a chance. And frankly given what Melvin has done the last two years, if EY hits .250 and steals 25-30 its an improvement.

So the Cards have been built to scratch runs out?

No, but they can do it when called for. The Braves have not been able to do that for a long time. Even in the glory years, the Braves were not built to be successful in night in, night out close games. We didn't just get unlucky 13 times in the playoffs. The biggest factor was lack of team speed and a refusal to situation hit when the opprotunity was there.

I question the accuracy of this narrative.

I still think a solid Spring from a once highly regarded prospect when he's still very young is a good sign. Especially when there's a new hitting coach. Simmons' success could mean something also as he has shown glimpses before.

Who do you guys see on the bench opening day? This is a very weird spring training with so many mediocre options.

That just shows you have low standards. EY is not a good player. Just because he is better then who the Braves have doesn't mean much other then the Braves are very limited offensively.

How do we know that? Everyone assumed Minor was going to be ok a year ago and looked at how that turned out. Just as EY could have that career year one of our pitchers could have a down year.

If we can't count on Juilo and Alex then just cancel the season. I am not ready to do that. I don't have low standards, I gaurantee this years team has a better year than last.

If you can tell me that what we are seeing out of CB/Tron/Jace are real then I will get on board. Until then I think we will be equally as bad/mediocre.

Yu Darvish just took the plunge. Now Zach Wheeler's going to have TJ surgery. You clowns act as if this only happens to Braves pitchers.
