Spring Training 2015

You wouldn't trade Kimbrel to free up $27M in cash (plus upgrade CF by default)??

You also have to remember that we're not going to compete the enxt two years. So we have to hope this guy: 1. stays dominant and 2. stays healthy

Who are we going to upgrade CF with that we couldn't get without trading Kimbrell and BJ? We already have the money to spend if we wanted to sign someone like Fowler next offseason.

We would have the chance to maximize the value of Kimbrel being relief pitchers are highly volatile. CHances are we aren't contending in the next 3 years anyways.

It's quite possible we could compete as early as 2016 depending on what sort of offense we can get. We have a deep rotation with plenty of depth in the minors. When we are able to compete, having the best closer in the game will be quite advantageous.

I like this guy too. He's got some jaw-dropping reverse splits in the minors at every stop. You'd pretty much need to use him as a ROOGY, but he could be one hell of a ROOGY.

That means this is an awful place for him right now.

You don't understand. The Braves front office is horrible at life and therefore the Braves are nowhere close to competing.

Trading Kimbrel would be idiotic if we plan on being competitive within the next three or four years.

You just said in the post above that we wouldn't be able to find any offense for $27M.... So what offense are we going to find without it?

Totally disagree. He is an arm injury away from becoming worthless during the remainder of his contract. We're not competing for the next two years. We will need to acquire some offense either via trade or FA if we want to compete by 2017

I think this is going to be the lineup we'll see next Monday:

Eric Young Jr.
Jace Peterson
Nick Markakis
Freddie Freeman
Johnny Gomes
Chris Johnson
Christian Bethancourt
Andrelton Simmons

This is the one that makes the most sense to me, but just swapping Simmons and CB. I personally think it makes sense to go with a hopelessly lost free swinger in the 8 hole. Seeing as how they are pitched around quite a bit. What good does a walk in front of the pitcher do in most cases?

Not convinced Fredi will be able to resist the all important lefty/righty deal in the batting order. Heywood may be on to something.

IF there were a way to give you 20 thanks I would. The lefty-righty dynamic is why I put that lineup out there... because it's what Fredi and probably Bobby would do. lol

How many of these guys will need to be replaced(upgraded) in order to have a realistic chance of competing? 4? 3? 5?

1, 5, 6 and maybe 7

It's doable. I could argue that we already have in house options to replace each player outside of Gomes and the maybe who is Bethancourt.
