Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

Decent outing for Julio. 2 runs over six isn't bad against a good Tigers lineup.

Another bad day, there's been many this spring. I can't remember a spring where there was less to get excited about. Seriously, what pleasant surprise(s) have there been?

And "Freddie is gonna rake" or "Julio looks like a stud" type stuff doesn't count. We knew that going in. We came into spring looking for a few more arms and have we found any? Most of the bench candidates have be unimpressive or worse. And the two guys fighting for the 5th starter spot (Hale and Garcia) haven't pitched well enough to earn it and they'r #3 and 4, at least for now.

It has been short of excitement. But then the past three springs have been unusually exciting. Bobby's last year. Chipper's last year. The Upton brothers + Gattis.

I'd say the best news so far has been the apparent progress made by Uggla and BJ in getting more comfortable at the plate. I say apparent. We have to wait until the season is under way to know for sure. But I'm cautiously optimistic about those two.

Julio looked GREAT today! Looked GREAT when I saw him pitch against the Yankees last Sunday. He is ready to have a major season.

Those aren't goose eggs on the scoreboard, they're turds. The offense has been excretible this spring. Two shutouts from the the splits squads? Give me a break.

ORIOLES 8, BRAVES 0 (7-run 8th)

But beware: Varvarp has stunk all spring: 1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 2 BB

Bad inning for Harper, too; has Cornely moved into the bullpen picture???

Six hits for Braves; Simmons 1-3, 2B

Uggla 1-3

Pastornicky 1-2! Good to see him in the mix; don't think we projected him as being ready, but he might be!

Freeman Back (0-3)

TIGERS 3, BRAVES 0

Teheran 6 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 K, 1 BB (first-rate job)

Buchter unable to finish his inning; Severino worked scoreless inning, but he is dead to me
