ST 3/20 - Wilson on hump - no DH- on TV!

It really depends on how badly they might want to save the money owed to Camargo, pending achieving the roster. If they want to pay him, he has an option, so could be stashed in Gwinnett.

Anthopoulos hinted as much last night, saying in 50-50 cases, they’re going to keep both guys, and someone deserving might have to start the year in the minors.

Yeah, but I think it's a tougher call here. The guys with options that AREN'T on major league deals - Webb, Newk, Touki, Ynoa are relatively easy calls because there's very little chance they'll be taken off of the 40-Man Roster. The problem with adding ANY of Adrianza, Kipnis, Panda, Nate Jones, and Carl Edwards to the roster is that you're going to have to release someone to make room for them.

This is why I've always thought Ender's roster spot was guaranteed. As a true 4th OF that can handle all 3 spots defensively, he allows you to use one of Riley/Camargo/Adrianza/Kipnis as your "emergency" 5th OF - since you won't need them to play defense out there very often you use the best bat for that. That would mean you could release all 3 of Ervin, Heredia, and Almonte to make room for Adrianza, one of Kipnis or Panda, and add one of Jones or Edwards to the pen.

Don't forget, once Adrianza, Kipnis, Panda, Jones, or Edwards are added to the roster, there's no going back - they'll have to pass through waivers if you need one of their spots later on.

Does Adrianza making the team knock camargo out? Adrianza looks like tony Gwynn right now haha

In his article from Thursday, O'Brien has Camargo and Kipnis as the utility guys and Lamb making the team. I obviously have no idea because I only read the box scores and see a few innings here and there. Camargo seems to have gotten a wake-up call and he looks to be in much better condition, but he's not hitting much. I have no real reason to believe Lamb answers any question worth asking.

One can't put too much into spring statistics, but Adrianza is a quality glove guy at 3 IF positions and can play corner OF. That kind of Swiss Army Knife player used to be fairly common in baseball, but with the ballooning of pitching staffs, glove-centric bench guys are becoming more scarce.

On the other hand, Kipnis has virtually no position flexibility having played 25 games in the OF and 1 at 1B out of 1165 major league games played with the rest of the time at 2B (where we have a firmly entrenched regular). I just think the entire bench looks extremely iffy right now.

Harris is gonna race through the minors like the wind. Mike Soroka couldn’t get him out yesterday - including two dingers.

Saw Camargo for the 1st time this year and he has more wiggles and waggles than ever. No wonder he isn't hitting worth a damn Don't recall all that movement from seasons past..

About Wilson... I was very encouraged by his effort today. He obviously didn't have his best stuff and was rattled when he got hit in the leg on a liner... but he really fought through it, did some major damage control, and stayed competitive. I think Bryse is going to continue to play above expectations.

The all-entertainment bench includes Adrianza, no question, along with Panda and Kazmar. That's mostly because great stories make great entertainment (albeit not necessarily great ball clubs).

I'm boycotting this season if at least one of PANDA or Kazmar doesn't make the team.

Our bench this season is the MLB equivalent of Dollar General.
My god what an awful set they are.
Pray for no injuries!

Honestly, the projected bench looks like a bench made up by a person writing a post whining about AA not making moves.

That poster says something like, “AA is sitting on his hands doing nothing, and we are going to watch a bench with Jackson, Adrianza, Lamb, Ender and Camargo”. We would all respond, “calm down bro, AA would never build a bench that poor”.

Problem is, he just built a bench that poor.

yup.
i’m shocked and was wrong. AA actually went ahead and is riding with a terrible bench. i thought for sure he’d fix it.

Maybe AA plans on getting on bringing in a couple of ST cuts across the league. Two guys I keep coming back to are Erik Gonzalez and Tim Beckham. We really need a decent back-up SS. Neither Camargo, nor Adrianza are suitable options. Camargo needs to be outright cut. He can't hit or play good defense at any position other than 3b. He is a waste of a roster spot. I'd honestly rather roll with Sean Kazmar at league minimum then to give Camargo 1.3 million for what will likely be similar production.
