I would take Groome, Pint, and Moniak before Lewis.

I don't think he was calling you high because you wanted someone other than Lewis, I think he was calling you high because you posted you were in the vast majority. The vast majority definitely wants Lewis. I can definitely see wanting Groome most, and I like Moniak as well, but not really a huge Pint fan. I'd be happy with Lewis, Groome, or Moniak myself, but prefer Lewis.

I think people get too hung up on positional need with the draft, IMO it should have almost zero bearing.

It should have some bearing, but BPA should definitely trump all for the most part. But when there is not a sure bet BPA, and 4-5 guys are all in the same range there is no reason to really not go with need a little bit.

Nothing wrong with that opinion. For all we know Lewis becomes the next Soler (who I also thought highly of), while Groome becomes Kershaw, Pint becomes Verlander, and Moniak becomes Yelich. And in 10 years history looks back at the Braves picking Lewis and says, "WTF?".

that is the no win of the draft.. We won't remember that we all liked Lewis a lot and only remember how in the heck did we pass on Groome..

Not a fan of Groome's mechanics tbh. A mix of Kerry Wood. Also looks like Paul Maholm. No legs. A lot of shoulder and arm.

Groome is 6'6, he is bound to be lanky in some areas. He gained a lot of muscle over the last year or so, must have skipped leg day.

I'm somewhat with you; I'd take Groome > Lewis.

I love Groomes upside and am a little worried about Lewis being a late bloomer and level of competition.

That being said, I want Lewis over most of the other guys in discussions for #3, but Groome is my draft crush

Some may be getting hung up on need, but I want Lewis because I believe he's the best player in the draft. There's risk there, but the upside is ridiculous.

I'm curious as to why the fact that he's a late bloomer hurts him in your eyes? That helps him in mine, I don't think he's reached his ceiling yet.

The fact that he's a power RH bat who can play corner OF definitely doesn't hurt, but that's not the reason I want him. I want him because he's awesome.

I would take Senzel over Lewis.

I can't really disagree with anyone's opinion about the top of this draft. Senzel is a really good hitter who has about as high a floor as anybody in the draft. I just personally want us to go upside. It's why I prefer Lewis and Groome.

I like Lewis as well, so I can't argue if some people think he's BPA at #3, he certainly has tools that are exciting.

Here's my thing with being a late bloomer - and it's nit picky, but there's a small level of concern for me when you're talking about a guy at the top of the draft who took a couple years to start mashing at a lower level of college baseball.

Almost a little SSS type thought process, is he really the guy we've seen this year, or is he playing above his head a little bit?

Splitting hairs here, I like both Groome and Lewis, but I see the 6-6 lefty with power/multiple pitches and control; that's my guy.

I'm very OK if we end up with Lewis.

No way! Lewis is a legitimate power bat. The guy has legitimate 70 power potential in his bat right now. No one else in this draft is close, IMO.

Honestly, I would probably take Josh Lowe over Moniak as the top high school bat, but I do like Moniak. I'm jut not sure Moniak will ever be more than a high average/high on base guy that doesn't really slug the ball.

Lewis hit as a sophomore and was one of the better hitters in the Cape Cod League during the summer. Lewis is also a guy who was mainly a basketball player growing up, so he hasn't actually concentrated on baseball till his high school years.

I tend to agree here, I want upside at #3 even if I know it means a lower floor.

Totally agree. To be a great team, you need great players. It's good to have good players. It's great to have great players. High floors aren't typically good guarantors of great players.

It didn't take Lewis two years, it took him one. He's much better this year than he was last year, but he was already really good last year. Again, that directly upward trajectory excites me. He's crazy good, and there may be even more room to grow.
