IMO, it is much harder to determine who will make it in the majors from the MLB draft than who will make it in the NFL or NBA from those respective drafts.
Think about Mike Kelly for a minute. That dude was 6'4", 195 lbs coming out of ASU. He was fast, and he had power. In right around 500 ABs over his final two seasons at ASU, that dude hit 36 home runs. And that was in the pre-Gorilla ball era as well. He also stole 43 bases. If there was a prospect like him this year, we would all be screaming to draft him.

Well, to start, you don't even know from the MLB draft who will play in the majors.

that's true, they have to stay healthy and progress through multiple stages even after being drafted.

All things being equal, I would take the bat... BUT, even with a college guy like Lewis we are looking at probably 3 years until he makes the squad which makes drafting for immediate need kinda silly. (at least as the MLB squad is concerned) BUT, the farm's weakness is power bats, so if Groome and Lewis were there, I'd take Lewis. But, hell, that's like asking me who I'd rather hook up with, Scarlett Johanssen or Amber Heard, I'm good either way!
According to the guy who writes for tomahawk take, Ben Chase (and claims to have scouting connections), the Braves are out on Ray and Senzel. Their top 5 hitters are supposedly Lewis, Moniak, Perez, Rutherford, and one other guy most people speculate is Kieboom. Of course this guy could be some pimply 15 year old with a vivid imagination.
The Braves have been linked so heavily to Kieboom that he is almost a lock to be drafted with pick 40 or 44, so any mock draft that doesn't include him can be dismissed completely because that site knows nothing if they don't know about the link between Kieboom and the Braves.
The Braves are also cooking up a scheme to get 2 of their top 5 hitters with their first 3 picks. That makes sense if the pick at 3 is Lewis or Moniak under slot, and Kaboom at 40 over slot.
Everything credible I have read says the Braves like Pint over Groome. Not sure I agree with that, but I'm certainly no scout.
And yes, Coppy did say college bat a month ago, but a week ago he said high school players with a high ceiling. So who really knows.

Just looking at the first three rounds of the draft, from 1996-2008, which covers the Paul Snyder/Roy Clark drafts, Atlanta took 58 players in those rounds. Of those 58 players, 48 were high school players.
Contrast that to the DeMacio drafts, or Wren drafts if you will, from 2009-2014, same rounds: 18 players selected, 12 from college.

Gotta remember though, for much of the Wren years, Schuerholz was on the committee to re-do the draft system to try and make it fairer and he wouldn't allow us to sign any guys for over slot. This kinda forced the draft team to go for signability .

I will say this. As a Mississippi State fan, I'm going to be a little perturbed if Atlanta drafts Walker Robbins this year. They took Austin Riley from us last year. They don't need to take Walker Robbins.

I like Carlos Cortes there (OF/2b prep guy from SC) but I really like the big lefty Braedon Ogle (6'5 prep guy from florida) but there are so many option then, who knows! I bet if I ranked a top 100 I'd be lucky to get 5 of them right come draft day
I've seen Cortes play a few times and know some people who coach one of the team's he has played on. The bat is ridiculous. He can flat out hit despite being only 5-9. But this isn't an exaggeration -- he has zero position on the field.
Ogle is awesome and was kind of a pop up guy. He's a UF commit so I'm hoping he gets to campus, but it probably won't happen with his size and velocity.

I'd think Lewis would be up in less than 2 years. Not saying he's gonna Longoria his way to the bigs but I think he's going to be motivated to get up here early being a local kid. I've read his interviews. He's a smart decent kid like Heyward. Just as Heyward was the textbook definition of "The Braves Way" I feel lewis can be in the same boat. Really crossing my fingers he falls to us at 3.
