I invest for fun, primarily. Aside from a Roth IRA and some fixed income bonds, enjoy gambling on stocks when companies/corporations I like are performing poorly and I can garner significant shares for a comparatively low buy-in. My portfolio is small, yet diverse.
Current prizes: TEPCO, Sirius XM, American Apparel, YUM Brands, T-Mobile, JetBlue, Yahoo, Fannie Mae, Blue Star Airlines (wink, wink).
Failures: Every Chinese tech company I've ever owned, every Marijuana related venture I've ever speculated on, Alcatel, Nokia, RIM, Barclays ... and that list goes on for a while.

I invested heavily in a Chinese Internet company; Baidu. Bought it years 5 years back, it split like 7-1 or something (can't remember). I truly believe that companies in China cook thier books due to thier government so I sold it all for like $80 a pop. Thing is in $217 now. So I lost a lot of money. It Depresses me to even think about it
My big bets are: Apple, Disney and Yum.
I went against my wife wishes on Apple, boy no snatch for a long time for that boneheaded move. She still reminds me of it today.
Yeah. 5 years aapl went from $28 to $119. We missed that gravy train
It was lilke $50 about a year ago... I can't believe I didn't buy it then.

I think there's still money to be made there: The ibm-apple deal, apple watch, 12 inch iPad, future of apple pay etc. I don't have enough money to purchase enough now but theres still solid upside.
