Swanson getting the call...

I disagree with this decision. Wondering if this was the thought process though . . .

In a year where the FO want's to compete / contend (use whatever terminology you prefer), they thought it would be difficult to go with stop-gap players at both SS and 2B until the Super Two deadline. Of the two positions, it's easier to use a stop-gap player at 2B. Jace is an internal option at 2B, whereas there really isn't a plausible internal option at SS that is above replacement-level. It will also be easier to acquire a stop-gap player that can play 2B through FA, versus one who can play SS. So, get Swanson some experience with the big club that he can build off of, and pencil him in as the starting SS unless he falls flat on his face.

The Braves cannot start everybody's clock at the same time. Having him called up first means he will get an extension first.

So many people on this board sound like they were hoping or expecting to have 10 players making their MLB debut at the same time on Opening Day. That is totally unrealistic.

I'm sure Malone appreciates everyone telling him how to spend his money.

People are overreacting to this move a bit much. I think it's a good idea to go ahead and see a glimpse at what we may have. The lineup immediately looks a ton better. Adding Kemp and Swanson makes this team interesting. Adding a couple free agents and making some strides in pitching development while adding Albies... All the sudden we are close to being a contender whether some of you care to admit it or not

Exactly. Plus this isn't him telling us he's ready. This is just the FO deciding months ago what they wanted to do with him and still doing it despite what his play has showed them.

Right. What I don't necessarily love is that this means they had decided he was going to be on the 2017 opening day roster. It just seems like the tail wagging the dog.

He'll probably be fine, but it's a puzzler to me.

Don't be ridiculous. You are acting like Swanson has ZERO baseball experience. I'll gladly watch him for the next 40 odd games as opposed to the first 120 with Aybar

I'm talking about Coppy not Swanson. Coppy is the one driving and it's looking more and more like he's not very good at it and is completely reckless and without regard to long term consequences

What kind of line do you expect from him in his first 400 or so AB?

do you consider Coppolella to be a baseball man?

So does Swanson have to be on the 40 man roster at the end of the year? I know they have some decisions to make on the 40 man, so my question is does this add another man that will require another guy to be left unprotected.

So more like handing over the keys to a Pinto, watching him turn it into a Porsche and then start driving it earlier than you thought he should, as he's going to have to start paying for gas a little sooner now.

The issue is less about the lost year of control and more the fact we are promoting a prospect because the FO decided to rather than the player showing he is ready. Dansby has been fairly average overall at AA and been very poor the past month and a half (hitting .250 with an OPS right at .700). Promoting a guy who is struggling at AA to the majors is just a dumb move period.

Or maybe our scouts and staff who watch him every day know a little bit more about if he's ready than a bunch of wannabe GM's on a message board that have watched a game here or there and a handful of at bats on YouTube?

This is the same guy who dealt two minor league FAs for a former No. 1 pick and a rookie LOOOGY to the Marlins for two legit prospects.

I respect that he is unafraid to roll the dice. I know that's because Hart has his back, but you can't win the jackpot unless you gamble a little. Another Olivera trade, however, and he will have to go. (joking)
