Swanson

I don't remember anyone specifically, but there was a lot of talk about Bregman being a potential big power guy based on the numbers he put up in the minors.

You probably saw him play in college as much as I did. I agree with your assessment of his power potential.

I watched bregman all through college and was shocked at his hr total last year

In his good months, he ops'd at .878 (sept '16) and .852 (current). In each of those months, he K'd over 25%. If he can ops at .800 and walks around 10%, that would be perfectly fine even with the Ks, wouldn't it? I'm assuming he cleans up the sloppy defense

I think it would be good enough for him to be a major leaguer, though perhaps not a particularly special one.

An .800 OPS at SS would be top 10 in the league, and right in the mix for top 5. You add decent defense to that equation and we're talking about one of the better players in the game.

I wouldn't go that far but an 800 OPS SS with above average defense is a 4-5 WAR player. Definitely all-star worthy and something I think Swanson can reach. I think he settles into the 3+ WAR range though.

so far he is .8 WAR in a little over 300 PAs in his major league career, with a 24.5% strikeout rate

I'm optimistic he can bring the strikeout rate down to about 20% over the next season or two, which would allow him to be a 2-3 WAR player.

If he brings it down to 15% (which could happen but I think has less than a 50% chance of happening), then yeah he could be a 4+ win player

That sounds about right to me. Either way I think odds are very good he is a productive player for the Braves.

Swanson will end up being just below a star level player. However you want to quantify that that is what he will be.

I mean, I'd certainly argue that an All Star is one of the better players in baseball. I agree with you, though.
