Tankathon draft pick watch

The hit the bat rule is stupid. If you aren't swinging and trying to get out of the way it should be a ball regardless.

My kid almost hit a batter last night, the ball hit the bat, and the ball was very close to fair down the 1b line. The doofy kid batting would have been out by 60'.

Pretty awful day so far. Orioles and Athletics both lost. That puts us in a three-way tie heading into the weekend, and of course we play by far the weakest opponent.

Final three days. Every team on the list below has the chance to at minimum tie us this weekend. And the only team on that list we hold the tiebreaker advantage over is Baltimore. Everyone else would essentially jump us if we tie them.

The only way the Giants and Cardinals tie us is if they lose all three and we win all three, which obviously is a low chance but possible.

4. Athletics (v KC)
4. Braves (v PIT)
4. Orioles (@ NYY)
7. Marlins 2 GB (v NYM)
7. Rays 2 GB (@ TOR)
9. Giants 3 GB (v COL)
9. Cardinals 3 GB (@ CHC)

I'm pretty nervous about this weekend. We have one of the two easiest matchups this weekend and are still playing well. No Skenes on the other side, and we're starting Strider-Sale.

What is the point of starting Chris Sale? Whoever made the decision needs a swift kick in the nards. There is zero benefit to starting Sale. Why do we continually make the worst roster decisions possible?

DFA some guy you know is not going to be on the roster next year, then send Waldrep down, and call up some rando career minor leaguer so he can tell his grandkids how he started a game in the majors.

Pirates have won 4 of their last 5. Hopefully we mentally check out these last 3 games and the Pirates can take a game or 2. Ideally, we lose the Sale and Strider starts (hopefully losing 4-3 each game with 2 Drake homers and a late inning BP collapse from the usual suspects). But I hope we win the Morton game and Morton goes 6 strong innings and we spot him 5-6 runs.

Looks like Morton is now listed as the probable starter for Sunday.

They announced yesterday Morton will start and Sale will follow him, which makes it even funnier to me. Gotta get that 36-year-old, injury prone pitcher in a meaningless game no matter what.

Agreed on Sale and Strider. It's a lose lose for us with absolutely nothing to gain. I'm guessing this is Snits call.

If a pitcher is healthy they are going to want to pitch. Now I would tell them that it won’t be for more than 40 pitches. Personally I am with Carp. Bring up one of your career minor leaguers and let them get a major league game salary and that experience of a MLB game. Good karma like that might make some ping pong balls bounce your way.

This. I don’t mind them pitching as much as I mind that our moronic manager will inevitably make sure they throw 100 pitches before he removes them.

Yup. For Sale, or even Morton since he's retiring, let them go an inning and at the start of the next inning go get them so they can come out to a standing ovation. It's really not that hard to do things like this.

Dropping below the Twins, Angels, Pirates, and possibly the O's and A's is only 5%?
Here are the current top pick odds:

Pick Team Odds
1 CHI White Sox 27.73%
2 Pittsburgh 22.27%
3 Minnesota 16.81%
4 Athletics 9.24%
5 Atlanta 6.55%
6 Baltimore 4.54%
7 Miami 77-82 3.03%
8 Tampa Bay 2.35%
9 San Francisco 1.85%

While the the difference of getting the top pick may only be a few percentage points, it will be much worse for getting other picks. For example, 9.24% vs 6.55% may not seem like a big deal, but once the top 3 teams are off the board the probability of the As getting the next pick will be 41% better than the Braves.

People claiming this winning steak didn't hurt the draft pick position don't understand how probabilities work.

People claiming it likely doesn't matter much if the Braves end up picking 3rd or 7th are probably correct.
