TDA extended

3/49 left on Ozuna is such a bummer, man.

We have great contracts on good players across the board and that one just sticks out like a sore thumb.

Without the DV and Ozuna hitting simply at career averages, he'd be a good contract too. Bad luck there.

I think AA signing Ozuna suggests you are incorrect in your statement that AA doesn't want a full time DH.

My point is if you get an extra bat in the line up you want a masher. Not any of our Catchers. You want a guy who just hits. Some teams will rotate guys time to time. But you want a guy/rotation where you are getting 850-900+ OPS.

You are looking at an Ozuna, Soler, Cruz, Encarnacion, JD Martinez, etc. TDA isn't in the same class as a hitter. Outside of last year he's just not.

Agree totally with this one. Look more closely at this years deadline acquisitions. Two lefties 2 righties, all with notable skills with the bat, defense for Rosario and Soler less of a talent. Think AA was just doing an early assessment for a possible DH signing. Not overlooking the fact that competition for DHs will be significant this winter with 15 teams possibly in search of.

Would have preferred a 1/1 but even still, hard to complain too much about this deal. Hope they can get FF signed, get Charlie back for another year. And pick up the options on Duvall and Joc. Then find some bullpen pieces.

The Ozuna contract wasnt bad at all, no one could have predicted he did what he did. Maybe he plays for the Braves again, seems unlikely but you never know.

The last confrontation for the Ozunas was not the first. And IIRC had an issue at a bar/club in St Louis while with the Cards.

I’m not sure why anyone should be. Acuña will be back and Riley can play 1st. I’d rather get one of the SS on the market to take over at 3B. Seager would be great if we can get him.

The shortstops on the market will probably cost more than Freddie will.

I got the impression that the pitchers didn't like throwing to Contreras. I may be way off base, but replacing Contreras with Kevan Smith was something I didn't expect. I wouldn't be surprised to see Contreras moved in a deal. Curious as to what his value might be, but I think this moves speaks volumes about how the front office views him.

I think it’s at least a sign they’re giving him another year to develop his defense, whether in AAA or in a rotation with d’Arnaud. I do wonder whether they might try him in LF at any point; I think the bat is going to be legit.

But most are younger and can be moved off the position if needed. It’s also a pretty crowded market for the SS FA class. Plus it upgrades the team defense.

Would severely downgrade the team offense too. None of those SS will hit like Freeman.

The Braves usually have 2 good catchers because they follow the Dodgers model. TDA is now one of those catchers the next 2 years. Lango will be given the chance to be the other one, with someone like Vogt brought in as insurance.

This deal is perfectly fine for a roughly half-time catcher.

Exactly- and if you just had to get rid of the money in the books it wouldn’t take 2 injuries to find someone willing to take him off your hands for the remainder.

Prepare to be more bummed then - they owe Ozuna 3 years/$53 million if they're unable to get out from under his money. He's only making $12 million this year - he's due $18 million per in 2023-2024.

It's not that crowded a market. There are three good ones and they'll all be extremely expensive.

1 is a Coors guy, 1 is a Dodger, and the other has trash can doubts.

The Braves SS next year will be Dansby Swanson.

The TDA contract number is pretty much exactly what I would have guessed and only slightly surprised it's the Braves. It makes sense all around.

Nobody said Dansby wouldn’t be playing SS. You upgrade the defense by getting Riley off 3B
