Tebow!

It's all Bread and Circuses for the masses.

We lost 100 games last year....but Tebow! Look it's a Tebow! By all that is holy and the strength of ALL failed left handed QB's, HE WILL LEAD US TO VICTORY! THIS IS GWINNETT!

Yes, because Tebow is how we will sell the rebuild.

No, they're going to do that by pimping the .600 ops shortstop who was brought up way too early.

Tebow is the lightshow produced be the man behind the curtain that you should pay no attention to.

Yah... I've certainly never seen a rookie come up and struggle with a .600+ OPS in their first tiny sample size in the majors.

Say what you want about Dansby, he's is showing signs of being the smartest hitter we have had on this team since that Larry fella.

The fan who needs the flashy new young guy playing in the majors to begin to get behind the rebuild is not the fan who has any clue what his OPS is. He sees him running around making plays and hitting inside the park HR with his flowing locks and he's sold.

You seem to be changing your argument now.

Actually no I'm not, if you read my original post I said directly "legit prospects"... sorry you didn't read it too well. Legit to me means anyone who has a legit shot to see the majors. We have plenty of OFers getting plenty of playing time in the minors who will never come close to sniffing the majors... so forgive me if I don't consider them legit prospects. To think Tebow will harm any of our prospect's futures is simply laughable and ridiculous.

732 OPS right now

Yah lets not forget that Bregman basically started 1-32 or something like that and is now playing great... kinda silly to call Swanson a .600 OPS shortstop through 59 at-bats at the MLB. Especially when he's been nowhere near a .600 OPS player at any other level. Its Horsehide's way though... exaggerate something to make it sound worse than it is.

Bregman was brought up much earlier and on a team in a pennant race. And BTW he had played much better than Swanson in the minors, climbing all the way to #1 on many prospect boards.

And Swanson was at .646 OPS yesterday AFTER his inside the park HR. He was mid .500's the day before.

Sure, sure, sure SSS. But his sample size leading to the mid .500's was light years larger than the sample size of the last two days that has seen him raise that up to the mid .700's. And he's not facing many top quality pitchers since the Braves are sitting him against most pitchers with any talent.

Hey, I hope he does great. It would be great to have to eat crow and say, "you know what, it's obvious that the 45 days at the end of a nightmare season was just what Dansby needed to kick off 2017 into a Rookie of the Year caliber season, and certainly worth losing him to FA in the middle of his prime, or paying him more than you have to sooner than you should have to, and carrying him on the 40 man when it isn't necessary instead of carrying some other player who might potentially have value to the Braves." But, I don't think that is going to happen and I think playing Dansby now is just part of the dog and pony show and not really about baseball at all.

Tebow is certainly not about baseball at all. It's pure showmanship and circus tactics, get people in the seats even if it's only to see the freak show.

?

I think he'd probably kill Chipper at Trivia, but seems like a less than legitimate baseball comparison at the moment.

Not in the context I was referring to. Point I was making is this. Over the last decade in baseball you see less and less of guys with plans at the plate. What you see more often than not is guys with one thing in mind. I get my pitch and I am cranking and yanking. Dans seems to be just get the job done whether that's a grounder to second to move a runner or to get a ball in the air to get that rbi. That will only get better with time.

Sure man. Swanson was hitting 300 with a high 600 OPS through his first 11 games. Gets 1 hit in his next 5 games to tank his stats then has 2 great games back to back to get it climb right back up. Such is the life of a SSS. To say Swanson has sucked except for the last 2 games is erroneous at best.

And while the part about him sitting against top pitchers is true he did get XBH's off Gonzalez and Strasburg who are no slouches.

The thing is, if he has a .500 OPS for the 2016 season, the defenders will say it's a SSS and they would be right. If he has a .750 OPS for the 2016 season, the critics will say it's a SSS and they would be right. Anything he does this season is a SSS. And it's coming in a season where it MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE TO THE TEAM. The only baseball reason to have Swanson at the ML level right now is that you think learning on the job for 45 games far outweighs all the negatives associated with bringing him up. OTOH, there are several non-baseball reasons to bring him up all aligned with marketing which is a short sighted need, not a long term need.

And to say he's facing good pitchers by citing a LH Gonzalez who's having an off season of 4.4 era with a .265 RH BAA/.760 OPS and a hurt Strasburg is stretching the defense.

They are sitting him against the better pitchers. At least so far. So, even with the SSS of his stats, you still have to consider that whatever the stats, they aren't true if he's not facing the toughest pitching on a routine basis. It's like being a platoon player only worse.

You've had some crazy arguments typically but this one takes the cake.

you can't just wait til you're competing to bring up all of your prospects. that creates other problems down the line. swanson getting a taste is good, and to try and say he hasn't played well is pretty silly.
