Tebow!

I just don't see the big deal. Is this move that throws the rebuild off track? Will we all look back 2 years from now and say, yep that's where it all fell apart.

I think the point is if he takes a single AB away from someone who is a more legitimate prospect, that's simply not how a baseball team should operate. It's not a serious move for a team that needs to start looking serious.

As per the White Sox and Michael Jordan, the White Sox are idiots at a lot of levels and Jordan was a vanity project they should have avoided.

Which legitimate prospect will be cut to make room for tebow?

Did everyone view the White Sox as idiots for signing Jordan? No. This is not going to tarnish the Braves' reputation, that's silly.

And how, exactly, would this be an American version of Olivera?
Maybe they see the same potential in him as Olivera? I highly doubt he even approaches Olivera's great career.

One never knows. And it's not just about getting cut. It's about taking ABs away from someone who has a better chance of moving up the organizational ladder. My guess is Tebow is not going to sign a contract that puts him on an A-level bench.

That's the thing: Olivera is a way better baseball player than Tebow is right now. And we saw how that went. Again: I just don't see the point in entertaining this circus and giving this guy the attention he wants.

Oh my lord... Tebow would never take away at bats from legit prospects. That thought is just plain ridiculous.

Is it possible the Braves could sign him just to work with him for a month or two on the side, rather than assign him to an actual team? Then, after that initial period and evaluation, if they think there is promise, they ask him to play for an international league during the off-season. If the Braves end up as the only team willing to sign him at all, then I don't see that he would have much choice or refuse it either. He'll get the press he wants that a team has signed him.

So the plan is for him to sit on the bench in the lower-levels of our minors? When will he get ABs? Only in garbage time?

our system is not blessed with serious OF depth. I am sure we can find a spot somewhere. he could DH as well.

I personally think this whole thing is stupid, but if they sign him.. who cares. he will not hurt this organization.

Tebow's situation isn't even close to the same situation as Jordan's. Tebow is trying to hold on to being a pro athlete after failing in the NFL. Jordan "left" due to pressure from his gambling situation and once that cooled down he came back. Doesn't hurt that the owner of the Bulls owns the White Sox too. Made it pretty simple.

Michael Jordan had the type of body that could at least play baseball. Tim Tebow looks like a linebacker and swings like one too. He can't throw. His swing is so muscle bound that it has one plane. There is less than 1% chance he would ever make it to the majors and there is a damn good chance Tebow would make Jordan look like a hall of famer. The team doesn't think we are stupid enough to believe its for "baseball reasons," right?

That's my issue with the saga. Signing Tebow might end up making plenty of business sense, but it's laughable to read these Coppy comments justifying the baseball sense.

I believe Michael Jordan hit around .250 in HS baseball. Tebow hit .494 as a junior before quitting baseball his senior year

That means absolutely nothing on so many different levels. Competition? Number of At bats? What were there body types in high school vs. now?

I can't find anyone that says anything about his baseball stats, just that he was a highly thought of high school baseball player that threw 45 consecutive scoreless innings and was looked at by different colleges.
