The Biden Presidency

I don't see evidence that he did anything other than piss off our allies and move a few chess pieces around, letting Russia widen their territory. NK, for all the BS PR and renewed diplomacy ended up 1 step forward and two steps back.

Biden will re-connect with allies and provide some strength and stability. If he can have a significant foreign policy success, he'll probably win a Nobel Prize, whether he deserves it or not.

Biden, I'm afraid is closer to a Neo-Con, than the Left will admit. Still doubt the Cheney story though.

To Bedell's point

Biden is a compromiser as every successful legislator .
That is why the worst way of advancing up the Executive Branch tree ( short of running against Trump) is having a legislative record.

We will find out what and who Biden is in due time.
I trust he will get us to 2024.
No more no less

As far as a Neo-Con. My opposition to him was his giving Bush43 a pass on military intervention
Let's hope he learned

When has he ever acted like a hawk on his own? I think he's a centrist and pragmatist who goes with the political wind. I don't see him as an ideologue in any way.

If he thinks the U.S. should have a stable and strong military presence abroad I'm okay with that. Good fences.

He's been a liberal internationalist and those guys can be some pretty aggressive "doves"...

It would have been great to get a single foreign policy question in the two debates for Mr Biden, who was one if the loudest supporters of the Jraq war we had in this country

The liberal internationalists and the Neo-Cons go to the same cocktail parties.

That said, and following-up on 57's post, we shall see. Biden is also a realist and tempered the Hillary Clinton advice to Obama.

they could go solid and boring

or they could go crazy

hopefully it is the first

I think the version of the Pub party that you and the Lincoln Project long for is dead. It certainly won't be competitive if it's ever reborn. A blue collar nationalist, populist, traditionalist party is the way forward. The thought of a socially conservative, worker friendly, slightly socialist party makes me giddy. Republicans have basically evolved into the pro life Blue Dogs that I miss so much. Maybe we can get Heath Shuler to join up to seek vengeance on Nancy for knee capping him when he tried to halt the Democrats' leftward March.

A good way to describe the route the Rs should go.

Yep. Much of the R vote was fueled by this very sort of thing and I don't think these guys get it in the least.

It's weird. The press was full of self reflection about this issue after 2016. Actual journalism made a brief comeback for a weeks to try to understand the people outside of their bubble and did an outstanding job of it. So I don't think the problem is a lack of understanding. They just truly believe they're superior.

"Whats wrong with Che?" - goldy

You've had 4 years of literal hitler 2.0. What are the consequences of his actions?

I read an article where some Miami area Democrats blamed the protesters with Che shirts and flags for the inroads Trump made down there with Hispanics. So don't discourage him.

For the record, I think it would be both bad for the country and politically foolish for Mcconnell to play hardball on Biden's Cabinet. He won, outside of something truly crazy he should get to pick his staff. That will lower the tension and also give it more weight if he has to fight on something meaningful like court makeup.

I see Tom Cotton and DeSantis as the most able to both turnout the Trump base and not turn off moderates and independents. Cotton's op-ed that set off the civil war inside the NYT went a long way to building his credibility against the new woke religion. Haley is too old GOP, Noem is too obscure. I would love to see Tim Scott become more prominent and be an option.

The most recent FIU Cuba Poll shows Trump did well among respondents in terms of his handling of the economy and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also scored high on race relations.

Black Lives Matter turned out to be “another one of the polarizing factors,” Grenier said. During protests in Miami, images emerged of activists spray-painting hammer-and-sickle images onto walls and statues or celebrating the Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara. Much media coverage early on also focused on the spurts of violence in the otherwise largely peaceful protests.

Those images were used to link socialism to the movement and helped elevate the outcry against Democrats who publicly supported the Black Lives Matter movement.

“The interesting and frustrating thing is how the socialist attack line has been used and abused,” Bustamante said. “While the attack was cynical and misleading, I think it worked.”

Trump’s significantly improved performance seemed to surprise everyone except his campaign, which knew long ago it was doing materially better with Cuban Americans in Miami, as well as Latino voters from other areas of Latin America. Those numbers became even more pronounced when Black Lives Matter protests broke out in Miami, drawing some leftists who waved flags with the likeness of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara and spray-painted red hammer-and-sickle images onto walls and statues.

“The socialism? You can’t be playing around with that word,” Salazar said in an interview, following her win Tuesday night. “It’s too acidic. It’s too dangerous.”
