One of the reasons Trump was so compelling in 2016 was he was a true outsider saying bold things and that was exciting disruption.

But Trump in 2024 has a record he has to contend with

Catch and release is the current default setting. It reflects our current laws and resources (or lack thereof) allocated to enforcing those laws. Catch and release plus long adjudication times incentivizes people to come here illegally. The senate bill would reduce those incentives by speeding up adjudication.

It is a sad reality that the chief issue trump ran on, and won on in 2016, he was really ineffective at providing any meaningful change.
