Denmark is one of those countries that the American left loves to point to and say, “Why can’t we be more like them?” This week, for once, there should be bipartisan agreement to this sentiment.
The Scandinavian nation has announced COVID no longer poses a threat to society, and is ending nearly all of its restrictions.
The realization that the COVID emergency is over and life should get back to normal has dawned on much of Europe, but across parts of America, and right here in New York City, our feckless leaders can’t take yes for an answer. So, for God’s sake, What metric are they looking for to end this? Give us a number of deaths, cases, hospitalizations, infection fatality rate, anything, that means we can ease restrictions.
Increasingly, it appears that governors like Kathy Hochul and Gavin Newsom, who insist our children wear masks all day, while they gallivant about maskless, have no intention of ever letting this end. If they did they would be setting guidelines for easing restrictions, instead they plot out an endless quagmire of shifting events and possible variants.
What makes the position of the “restrictions forever” crowd utterly untenable is the research showing that our lockdowns never worked in the first place. A new Johns Hopkins study shows that our hysterical effort at shutting down society reduced COVID mortality by just 0.2%. 40 million thrust out of work, a third of small businesses ruined, education of kids ignored, overdoses skyrocketing, shelves empty, all for 0.2%.
They love the power... And even if they didn't, their idiot voters are so irrationally scared they are trapped into "taking this seriously" forever.
People are masking their children and putting experimental gene therapies in them because of the .00000001% chance their child might get sick.
The real sick ones are these adults that are still doing this with all we know now.
They love the power... And even if they didn't, their idiot voters are so irrationally scared they are trapped into "taking this seriously" forever.
That. And the politicians are to blame for it.
That. And the politicians are to blame for it.
The other challenge... Is when they do remove restrictions, it's kind of admitting failure. Two years of tyranny that did nothing is not a good look
I wouldn't say did nothing.
They caused extreme pain and suffering so theres that!
I'm still in disbelief of what the universities are doing. Mandatory boosters and masks and no social interaction to young healthy kids.

just an aside. Denmark has 81% fully vaccinated 60% boosted. US isn't close to those.
We are basically done with the pandemic side as long as a truly nasty variant doesn't show up. Now that Vaccine rates are shooting up deaths and hospitalizations per case are dropping.

If it were up to me, we’d have no restrictions right now, but part of the frustration here is a lack of transparency on what the criteria are for lifting restrictions. Earlier in the pandemic we got the vague curve flattening, later there were vaccination rate targets, but at this stage in the pandemic, goalposts have gone from moving all over the place to disappearing completely.
It’s a big reason why many are saying this is no longer about public safety and more about retaining power.
