The Coronavirus, not the beer

I'm sure crime is down across every major city in the country.

NOLA was one of those cities, and they have been mostly a ghost town as well.

Eventually we'll have these excess death numbers for every city and state. Some enterprising grad student will tease out the declines in homicide, traffic accidents, flu and other infectious diseases. And we will be a lot closer to the true death count from COVID.

Although the anti-book-learning brigade here seems to think

1. An abortion is intentional

2. Shutting down society will kill people

3. I also support people driving and swimming in a pool

Go back to begging for the government to take care of you

Beaufort County (the area across the bridge that includes Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort), still had their gyms and pools open as of a week and a half ago with everything packed. Not surprisingly they had a huge jump in cases reported that weekend.

Interested to see the mortality rate there, sincd hilton head and bluffton is full of old retirees.

Savannah meanwhile took action very quickly. We cancelled the busiest week of the year for our economy during the week of st Patty's. Our case numbers are very low. Big props to our mayor for sacrificing the most profitable week for this tourist town to get ahead of the curve and not have a million people be in our little town for that week and spread it fast as it did like mardi gras.

Like freedom boy gives a **** about protesting

All I’ve ever seen him do is degrade it. lol

By mid-March this thing was spreading at warp speed. A day or two on social distancing made a big difference. I think your mayor saved a lot of lives.

By my very rough and amateurish calculations we have about 4 million infections right now nationally. If we had waited 10 days longer to social distance it would be more like 20 million nationally. Five times as many people in the hospital. Five times as many deaths.

At the same time if anyone is equipped with the financial means to successfully fight off the Wuhan virus it’s the people of Hilton Head.
