Honestly what is the endgame for the pro maskers, if there is in fact an end game
They have to weigh (1) what’s the upside going from a mask recommendation to a mask mandate (there’s nothing stopping people from wearing the mask on their own, if they want to (2) what’s the rate of compliance if they institute a mandate (3) more importantly, what’s the rate of compliance in districts with lower than average vaccine rates
(4) how does a mask mandate impact vaccine hesitancy in either direction
To me, the downsides outweigh the upsides. The govt should be using whatever juice they have left trying to convince the vaccine hesitant (the ones who can be reached) to get the vaccine. A mask mandate would just detract from the effort, and the states/individuals most likely to abide by it are the ones who are already most protected by the disease.
Of all the things we’ve tried, the vaccines are the only thing that we can say for sure has worked (*paging thethe*) That should really be the only thing we’re focusing on.
