The pressure on resistant mutations is there whether you have a bunch of people gaining natural immunity or a bunch of people with vaccine based immunity. It might take a little longer with natural immunity but the pressure is still there.

We don't seem to make that type of vaccine anymore. Modern vaccine research seems to run into a wall once it achieves a vaccine that mitigates symptoms and needs regularly administered treatments.

The fact we have a vaccine for a Coronavirus at all is pretty miraculous at this point.
