The Countdown...

Ryan Klesko!?

Ryan Klesko's 2nd big league blast happens in this great 1993 comeback. I loved watching Ryno crush one and then throw his hands up like that. Bobby Cox for whatever reason was so reluntent to give Klesko a chance to prove himself against lefties. Then after the stupid trade that sent him to San Diego he proved he could handle lefties just fine.

93 was an incredible year. The last great pennant race.

Yeah it was. Incredible pennant race, but not just that. Braves made one of the best trades of the decade and the best free agent signing. Also, graduated great young talent. The present and future were incredibly bright.

And yielded one world series title.

For me the 1990s were a Golden Age. I guess becoming a fan in the 1970s made me less demanding in my expectations.

Damn, I miss Chipper. It's hard to adjust to him being gone.

Can remember the number retirement ceremony night like it was yesterday - first face you see on the third row above the "H" as they're unveiling the banner. Can still picture him single-handedly dismantling the Mutts during his MVP season - if they'd have let the Pitchers pitch with the 8 regulars out there defensively, they could've spotted the Mutts two outs every other inning and let him hit. He'd have beat them by himself.
