The Don

Each day passes I'm convinced Trump is trolling the GOP. Every big named establishment guy is doing all they can to discredit Trump but not Carson (maybe they see him as a running mate)

The more fringe outlandish things Trump says, the more of the base he riles up and gets excited, the more the other GOP candidates have to move right to try and get that share of the vote.

The best part? If I recall, the Republican Party has made it so only Registered Republicans can vote, lSo independents can't bail them out by giving support to Jeb or Rubio, if Trump really really holds the base up until Iowa and New Hampshire, he may sweep the GOP primaries in the South (Carson is black, Rubio is hispanic, and Jeb is married to a hispanic and is pro-immigration reform).

You have the bottom feeders acting as attack dogs on Trump (Christie, Jindal, Walker, Perry) to try and position themselves for one of the non-Trump top dogs to maybe pick them as a Veep.

Trump has no prayer of being the nominee

i use to think this

i then look at the other losers they have

and i actually start thinking that idea is crazy

he resinates with the base of dumbs and racists that is the base of the republican party

the rest just want someone different, it doesn't matter if his words are bull**** etc

i think he has a good shot being the nomination and then losing

seriously

I'll take the bet. And not sure why you think all the other candidates are losers. Just your typical nonsense these days

typical.

I gave you a chance to explain why all the other candidates are "loser" and I get you typical nonsense these days

lol

"i gave you a chance..."

that's good stuff

by the way i said the others were "losers", not "loser"

Why not? The last 2 Rep nominees have been Romney and McCain, both quite weak candidates with little universal appeal.

If 'little universal appeal' gets one 60 and 61 million votes (respectively) then sign me up for that label.

I think you probably meant to say, 'hip and photogenic appeal'.

Romney was the party candidate. The base didn't want to rally behind him because he wasn't energizing it. But what Romney brought was money. Not his own mind you, but he had the backing of the people with money.

Looking at the R campaign right now, You see the issue for all the republican cadidates. Sourcing from insidegov.com, Jeb Bush has raised 120M, the next nearest is next closes is Ted Cruz at about 50M. Obviously the Donald has the money to just piss away on this campaign if he doesn't get the funds. But the people will go where the money is.

Maybe they won't but money buys a lot of things. Be it TV time, radio time, influence over news coverage, so on so forth.

Money won't be a problem for the eventual nominee, whoever it is.

I agree, but money is starting to be a problem for several of the nominees. Perry already dropped out. I think several others will and it will be a 5 horse race before too long.

That's probably a good thing, but there's always a Sheldon Adelson lurking.

True, and Bush is the leading candidate to get Adelson's money FWIW. IIRC it's gonna be Bush, Christie, Walker and Kasich who'll be meeting with him.

Jeb is the Romney of this cycle. People don't really want him, except for the people with money. Same thing will happen with Hillary

I can't see how Bush's connection to the establishment and proximity to the money faucet are going to fail to make him the guy to be reckoned with. He may not be the candidate, because there are enough other good boys and girls who will toe the line, but there isn't going to be an outsider or insurgent candidate who is going to get the nomination . . . for either party. It would have been unlikely in the past, but it's unthinkable post Citizens United. The people who write the big checks are going to decide it, and when they decide that it's time for Trump's candidacy to take a long walk off a short pier, it will.

Adelson usually likes to give his money to the candidate who is most willing to give him a seat at the big table, and I just don't see Jeb being willing to do that. He's empowered by third-generation bundler loyalty, and has made it clear from the get-go -- to all parties involved -- that he's going to run his campaign his way (much to the chagrin of your usual establishment power brokers, as well as people, you know, who have watched the train-wreck unfold since day one).

I could see Christie kissing the ring, although Adelson is extremely conservative, so that would seem to rock to the boat toward a Cruz/Walker type.

But even running it "his way" has resulted in more money than any other candidate. His way if you would is right in line with the money.

You could be right about Walker/Cruz.

I think in the end. It's sad that this is what determines election. Basically politicians are race horses groomed and owned by the rich.

Adelson isn't enough to wreck ****. How'd it go for him and Newt, or Lindsay or whoever else he flirted with last cycle? Walker I can see. Cruz is a black hole.

You could easily make the argument that Adelson's bolstering of Gingrich/Santorum late into the primary season is what stifled the Republicans from coalescing around Romney and ultimately cost him what was a very close election.

Adelson's just a gnat, no doubt, but a pretty big one.
