Called Up to the Major Leagues
Did Uggla really give his all? I see a guy who refused to change at the plate in spite of overwhelming evidence that he must.
He was over 30 and unathletic. Prime candidate for a downturn. I'm surprised he lost it all so suddenly, but he never had an OPS over .800 in Atlanta and I don't care where he ranked among second basemen in the league. He played bat, pure and simple, and he lost his ability to play bat. I liked him on a one-year deal, but hated the extension. Said it then and, while I don't feel somehow superior that my impression was correct, I did see this coming. Just not so suddenly.
Unathetic??? Umm what?

Relative to other MLB players, I don't think Uggla is that athletic. Especially for a 2B.
You mean fast and agile? Sure I guess he could be a little more light footed, but he's always been in great shape and isn't exactly a statue out there.

Wouldn't the DFA process already be in motion if he refused assignment?Hate this for both sides. Dan should have gotten a start per week but the braves didn't see fit. They exiled him for some reason. Last week he wasn't even in full uniform for one game. Maybe because he refused assignment to Gwinnett or whatever but something happened internally.

Exiled? Guys that hit that poorly don't get ABs on any team.
Under Cox everybody played even Corny Miller.

Someone with a better knowledge of roster business please chime in, but IIRC, when a player is DFA (one of the options being assignment to the minors, which Uggla can refuse due to MLB service), he is no longer on the roster. Uggla was suspended, so he had to be on the roster, so DFA can't have started. The Uggla Endgame may have, but not DFA.Not exactly clear on all the rules. Maybe this was something being late cooked up by the agent to force Frank's hand but I still say something happened. I mean we have at least one player per night go 0fer Dan going that one game a week would not have hurt.
They "exiled" him because he was awful in the starts he got and useless from the bench, and they have a young, healthy, productive alternative. I assume that there's stuff that has gone on behind the scenes, but none of us can really speak to that.
