The Official It's Better for Everyone That Dan Uggla's Done Thread

I think the bigger issue may be having a guy on the team who didn't dress for a game and has showed up late on gameday. I suppose that the FO has just set their cap on getting some modicum of salary relief when they dump Uggla, but at this point it isn't hard to imagine it being a distraction for the team.

Yup. There have been some claims and assumptions made around here that exaggerate the importance of the last bench player. He potentially becomes important when there are injuries. But only potentially, since there is also the second bench in AAA that can be drawn from when someone goes on the DL.

I don't anyone is claiming Gosselin as the missing piece to a World Series championship, but I think a case can be made that Gosselin (or someone similar) is more valuable than Uggla for the last slot on the bench. Uggla is a one-position guy on defense (as is La Stella). I would never expect great things from Gosselin offensively, but he's played 2B, SS, 3B, and LF thus far this season and having someone who could facilitate double-switches late in a game is, in my estimation, more valuable than a guy who can simply PH or play 2B. Uggla is one of those players who has to start to have considerable value. If he can't cut it as a starter, it's difficult to make a place for him.
