The Passion of John Rocker

He was very outspoken after it happened and we needed our leaders to keep the peace rather than doing more tacking to the press.

I know Rock declined but it was a meltdown that happened immediately after it happened. I really think the stress broke him. I don’t like him but he left a big hole in the bullpen. Teammates should have realized that.
Oh boy…

People can forgive you being a shitty person if you're a superstar, Kobe raped someone and they just swept that under the rug and no one brings that up. Walker had one basically good year, 1999. 1998 was solid. but basically he was pretty good at striking guys out but walked too many guys and gave up too many homers.
dying tragically during middle age has had an effect on his legacy, too.

even with that though, I feel like I've seen more discourse online about Kobe's life circa 2003.

And regarding the rocker, I'll always remember the 6.66 era that he finished up with when he pitched with the Texas Rangers

If youre going to talk shit, you better have the ego to back it up. Larry Bird could have said something like that then went out and dropped 40. Rocker didn't have any meltdown because of stress, eh wasn't very good but had a good year, look at his minor league stats, they're not great, he walked too many guys and didn't strike them out enough. He just wasn't that good. Not good enough for any extra heat he brings.

He didn't leave a big hole in the pen he didn't create. You're making him out like he was dominant like Venters, he wasn't. He wasn't that great.

Venters. :( Probably the most dominant bullpen arm I've seen in 40 years. Well, second to '92 Eckersley anyway.
