The Second Base Transition: Mixing and Matching

But Pastornicky and Pena have a careers worth of sucking. Sure they could piece it together and blah blah blah, but it's time to give someone else a shot. Let TLS get a shot, then give Gosselin a shot. If they suck then we're back to the craptacular hydra. If one of them produces then we're saved from the craptacular hydra.

La Stella was in a bit of a slump in early May. But lately he's been giving signs of pulling out of it. In particular, he has a couple doubles in his last two games. That's what I would look for, some indication he is driving the ball the way he did at lower levels. I think he's close to being ready. He has a fairly pronounced split so far this year (.784 OPS vs righties and .594 against lefties).

Interestingly, Gosselin has pronounced splits the other way (.922 OPS vs lefties and .739 against righties). It might make sense to bring them both up and go with a platoon for a while.

But I think Pena and Pastornicky are going to be given a couple more weeks to get going.

Artfully put.

I think they're about to do just that. The only question is timing. When is this road trip over?
